Achievement 3 by @venon task: Content Etiquette
Hello everyone, after reading and understanding the instructions given by @cryptokannon, I present my achievement 3 post which concerns plagiarism in relation to what we post on Steemit.
PLAGIARISM
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, the verb ‘’to plagiarize ‘’ means; "to steal and pass off [the ideas or words of another] as one’s own: use [another’s production] without crediting the source".
The addition of the word ‘’steal’’ in this definition, includes cases when someone else’s ideas or words are deliberately used without crediting the source. Even accidentally using another’s ideas or words without proper citation maybe due to negligence, falls under this definition as your work tries to ‘’show off’’ another’s work as yours.
When using images or content that is not yours, make sure to quote the source of the image or content.

Consequences of Plagiarism
• If you post plagiarized or copied content it could cause you valuable professional referrals and future career advancement.
• You will be violating copyright law and thus can be legally prosecuted.
• Posts without proper citation where necessary are seen as offensive and will be down voted by community members.
How to avoid Plagiarism
Cite your source
• When posting an image, first of all ensure you have all the right to use such image, also add a link as close as possible to the image.
• When alluding to an idea or wording that is not yours, add a citation in your article that points to the source.
Include quotations
• If you paste a source’s words verbatim into your article, one of the simplest yet obvious way to avoid plagiarism is to add quotation marks around the text to show that the words are not yours.
• A direct quote should also cite the source of the content so that those reading may know who the quote is from.
Present your own idea
Instead of repeating someone’s ideas or words, why not make your own unique perspective to which you’ll be very proud of, and also save yourself the headache which plagiarism can cause.
Special thanks go to @cryptokannon for developing this wonderful task.
