Achievement 2 || @rohitksharma || Task : Basic Security on Steem

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Hello dear friends, I am Rohit Kumar Sharma.
I have already completed the achievement-1 and I got suggestions from @lovveday to complete achievement- 2.

Slide1.JPG

I read all the details and understood the Basic Security on Steem. So, I am going to answer all the questions asked to complete achievement-2.

Question 1
Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?
Answer 1
Yes! I saved my keys properly. I have made a separate Gmail account for steemit in which I have saved the pdf. I have also handwritten the key and uploaded it on Gmail. As this Gmail account is not commonly used for another purpose, the chances of hacking/compromise are negligible.

Question 2
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Answer 2
When we enter the Steemwallet and go to the Keys & Permissions, we see five (5) types of keys.
Let's understand about functions and restrictions of all the keys.

1. Posting Key:

  • This key is used to make a post or to comment on others posts. If You feel that you have mistakenly written the words in your post, steemit gives you chance to edit it and republish correctly.
  • Steemit is a crypto-based social website in which authors get paid for their good posts in terms of steemit tokens that is STEEM, STEEM DOLLARS and STEEM POWER. So, if you like someone's post, you can upvote and if you don't like the post, you can downvote the post. Upvoting and downvoting the posts require Posting Key.
  • Just like another social website, Steemit also allows users to share the good posts of others. If you want to share someone's post with your followers, you can resteem the post. This will require your posting key.
  • Some authors use to write very good articles like a personal diary, knowledge about technologies, cryptocurrencies etc. To easily read their article we need to follow them using our posting keys and visit their profile regularly.
  • There are many users in steemit who use to post cheap articles and develop a habit to tag you all the time. So, steemit allows us to mute those account to stop receiving tagged notification using our Posting Keys.

2. Active Key:

  • Regular posting of the good articles may reward you with the Steem, SBD and steem power. If a user wants to transfer these steem based tokens to another user or to any exchange, it will require Active keys to transfer.

  • To increase the power of the steemit account we need to convert available SBD to steem, then power UP those steems. Converting the SBD to STEEM, Powering UP and DOWN from the steemit account requires the Active Keys.

  • If a user wants to place the selling/buying bid directly to the steemit supporting exchanges like poloniex, it also requires Active Key

  • If a user wants to change the profile photo, display name or address, active key will be required.
    22.png
All the keys will look unrevealed initially like this and a user is expected to put the Posting Key to reveal it.

3. Owner Key:

  • These keys are used to change the Active Keys, Posting Keys and Owner Keys.
  • This key is stored very safely because it can recover our compromised account.

4. Memo Keys:

  • To transfer our steem tokens on the steemit account, all the exchanges ask for Memo Keys to locate the transfer of steem tokens.
  • Memo Keys are used to send encrypted messages and to view the encrypted message.

5. Public Key:

  • This key is not required to be stored in a safe place.
  • In the Public keys option, we get the link of steem scan so that we can look at the activities on our steemit account.

Question 3
How do you plan to keep your master password?
Answer 3
As I have already mentioned, I have separately made a Gmail account and saved my master key. I have also printed it out and kept it safely in one of my favourite books. I think my keys are at the safest place to my knowledge.

Question 4
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
Answer 4
Yes, I have understood the procedures to transfer the steem token to another steem user account.
Let me explain my understanding of it,

23.png
In the above screenshot, we can see a dropdown menu in STEEM, STEEM POWER and SBD.
On clicking the dropdown separately, we will see that only STEEM and SBD are the transferrable steem tokens and STEEM POWER can be withdrawn completely after powering it down for 28 days.

24.png
On clicking TRANSFER, it will open like this (look at the screenshot below)

25.png

In the above screenshot,

  • 1 is numbered to MY ACCOUNT ID,
  • 2 is numbered to RECEIVER'S ACCOUNT ID,
  • 3 is numbered to the QUANTITY OF TOKEN TO BE TRANSFERRED,
  • 4 is numbered to the MEMO ( To write the message).

The same process follows to transfer the SBD tokens to another user's account.

Question 5
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Answer 5
Yes! I got the idea of how to power UP my steem.
Let me explain my understandings,

26.png
After opening the steemwallet, we move to the dropdown of STEEM, we get the PowerUP button. Clicking on the PowerUP button, it moves towards Powering up window. Look at the below screenshot.

27.png
Simply filling the AMOUNT OF STEEM to powerUP, it asks for one confirmation.
Then after providing our Active or Owner key or Master password automatically POWER gets UP.

When a user Powers UP, it can be seen in wallet history as shown below.

That was all from my side.
Thanks for reading.
