In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.
The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

✏️ All of the following are considered plagiarism:

1. turning in someone else's work as your own
2. copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
3. failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
   giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
4. changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
5. copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)

Direct plagiarism-

Copying another writer's work with no attempt to acknowledge that the material was found in an external source is considered direct plagiarism.

Example -In instances of direct plagiarism, the writer takes most of his or her draft almost word-for-word from another source.

Mosaic plagiarism

One of the most confusing types of plagiarism is mosaic plagiarism because it encompasses a lot of different behaviors. Also called “patchwork plagiarism” or “patch writing,” this type of plagiarism involves using part of someone else’s work and adding your own work to it. This includes “copy/paste” and “find and replace” plagiarism, where you replace certain words or sections with paraphrased work in an attempt to make it unique.

Example - Here are some examples of Plagiarism:
Turning in someone else's work as your own.
Copying large pieces of text from a source without citing that source.

Self plagiarism

means reusing work that you have already published or submitted for a class. It can involve re-submitting an entire paper, copying or paraphrasing passages from your previous work, or recycling old data.

Example
Reusing data or ideas from your bachelor's thesis and building on them in your master's thesis without citing the original work.

Contributing author plagiarism

Accidental plagiarism

Accidental Plagiarism might occur when you do not really understand how to properly paraphrase, quote and cite your research

Secondary source plagiarism

when a researcher uses a secondary source like a meta study but only cites the primary sources contained within the secondary one

textbooks.
dictionaries and encyclopaedias.
books that interpret, analyse.
political commentary.
biographies.

How to avoid plagiarism

1. Don't procrastinate with your research and assignments. Good research takes time. ...
2. Commit to doing your own work. If you don't understand an assignment, talk with your profesor/seniuer/coluoge. ...
3. Be 100% scrupulous in your note taking. ...
4. Understand good paraphrasing.
