  • Don't post nudity, if some graphic imagery that might be viewed as offensive is a part, an advance NSFW should save as a warning.
  • Don't bribe people for their votes, or make them uncomfortable by soliciting for for money

You can read about this and more on The complete steemit etiquette guide revision 2-0 by @thecryptofiend

Among the numerous Steemit do's and don't you will find on the link above, the "Do not Plagiarize" is one among the most emphasized content etiquette on Steemit and In this post, Plagiarism will be at the center of the discussion.
We shall consider:

  • a definition for plagiarism
  • effect of Plagiarism
  • forms of Plagiarism
  • how to avoid plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is a criminal act where the perpetrator collects credit after presenting another persons literary work in part or in full without any references pointing to the real owner as a source.
It is called Plagiarism because it involves the unlawful taking of intangible materials like words, ideas, tread secret, even when such are not protected by any legal intellectual property right or patent.

Do not take ideas or thoughts from an existing source without paying homage as it will amount to the criminal act called Plagiarism and you will be labeled a Plagiarist

Effects of plagiarism

  • Plagiarism has destroyed the reputation of students, professionals and writers who have been cought in the art
  • Some Plagiarist have been convicted and asked to pay heavy fines and damages.
  • A Plagiarist defrauds the system and gets credit and rewards for skills and things they are not

Types of plagiarism

Mosaic Plagiarism:
Also known as copy and past. In this type of Plagiarism, different segment of the material is lifted from different authors and then compiled into the Plagiarized text.

Global Plagiarism:
The Plagiarist in this case just took the whole material and only changed the name and presented it as his own work.

Self Plagiarism:
The Plagiarist here is Plagiarizing one of his previous works by representing it in part or in full was if it was a new work.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism:
The Plagiarist in this case makes some alterations by rearranging the sentences and Paraphrasing the work of another person.

How to avoid plagiarism

photostudio_1647464611188.jpg

Always cite your work correctly.

Use quotation marks when ever you are including ideas you have borrowed from an existing source. It's a wise thing to do if you will have to bring in other people's knowledge into your work. Just bribe everyone by paying homage, stating that

"The wisdom of the wise, and the experience of ages, may be preserved by quotation."
By Benjamin Disraeli

But if the question will be very lengthy you can use this technique

It is often not the words but the message behind the words that makes a quote so meaningful. Even the shortest of quotations can convey the most powerful of messages, provide meaningful perspective, and impart hard-won wisdom.

Paul Ayoub; Lizzie Ayoub, Inspire Me!

Use some plagiarism software
Make use of Plagiarism software to confirm that you did not coincidentally use a statement that coincides with someone else in the past.

Double check all your sources
This will help you avoid Accidental plagiarism which comes as a result of incorrect source.
