Hello guys, welcome again. Trust you are doing well. I'm so glad my Achievement 1 and Achievement 2 have been verified so let's get started with achievement 3.

CollageMaker_20211217_150937020.jpg

Imagine taking your own money, going to the market, coming back home to cook a very delicious meal for a sick friend in the hospital. But you had something really important so you had to send the food in a flask through a friend or relative only for her to go and tell the sick person she cooked it for him/her😂😂😂😂 and off cause receiving all the praise. Seriously this has to be plagiarism na.

Normally we only consider copy and paste without reference and plagiarism but is that all??

If your friend comes up to you and shares a very good idea of hers with you BUT go behind her back to use that idea like it was originally yours and you receive all the credit. That is plagiarism cause you stole her idea without even mentioning her.

Or say you took out time write a good story, publish the book and one day some movie director just turns it into a movie without giving you any credit or asking for permission.

Or say you scrolling through social media then see a picture you took time to snap,edit and arrange being used without any credit or reference given to you.

It should hurt right?. Well whether you take someone's idea, work text etc completely, part of it or even just one line without giving the original owner credit or referencing him so that you take all the credit while presenting it as your own is PLAGIARISM.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM???

University of Oxford defines it as; Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or unintentional. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.Source

The Cambridge dictionary defines it as ;the process or practice of using another person's ideas or work and pretending that it is your own Source

Here on steemit users are encouraged to be creative and free to post quotes, songs, poems, ideas, photos and whatever as long as its original BUT if you need to quote someone, use a picture or something which isn't yours, you need to give the source or use citation.

Being a plagiarist(someone who practises plagiarism) means your intention is to take complete credit for someone else's work or idea and make it appear like yours. It may not be illegal but plagiarism is a very bad practise and is completely discouraged here on STEEMIT because the plartform is mainly to encourage originality or creativity.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism can be shared into the various types;

♧Complety copying someone else's work word for word without the slightest reference.
♧Using part of someone's work maybe quotes or defination etc
♧Using someones work or idea and giving no credit to then because of ignorance
♧Blending someones work into yours so that its hard to find out and no reference is given.
♧Not given credit for work you contributed in or vice-versa(taking credit when you didnt contribute). Perfect example is during group/team work.
♧Making minor changes to someone work to make it appear like yours.

AVOIDING PLAGIARISM

We can avoid plagiarism by stating the original source of the work, quote, idea or picture where one find the original post. That is the by using citation. Using > or "" when quoting someone. For example;

A "citation" is the way you tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. It also gives your readers the information necessary to find that source again.Source

For pictures, we can use pictures from copyright free websites like https://shutterstock.com, https://pexels.com and https://unsplash.com then cites its source by [Source](link of the particular picture source). Example below.

People usually involve in plagiarism because of laziness or lack of confidence in your own work except for those which are not intentional. So always try to be creative, go over your work to check mistakes and cite any copied work if used.

This brings me to the end of my achievement 3. Thanks so much for reading till this point while waiting for my approval I hope you've learnt something and will do better next time when plagiarism is concerned.

Remarks;
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
