Steemit is an open platform that rewards users for posting original content that complies with their terms of service.

PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is the posting or publication of someone else's content, work or ideas without giving them due credit or acknowledgement. It includes posting copied or borrowed sentences, paragraphs or images without giving a source to where it originated from.
Plagiarism violates the the rules and standards of the steemit community. In order to avoid this, it is required that you give reference or citation to any of your contents that consists of other people's work.

CITATION

Citation means adding a source or reference to any copied or borrowed idea. It is important because it adds value to your content. It also allows the reader to get more information by clicking on the source which you provided. This can be done by;

★Adding a quotation mark or the > markup to every copied sentence or paragraph.
Example:

Steem provides a scalable blockchain protocol for publicly accessible and immutable content, along with a fast and fee-less digital token (called STEEM) which enables people to earn the currency by using their brain.

The above statement was copy/pasted without alterations therefore I used the > markup. With this, the reader will know that the statement was copied. This can be replaced by using quotation marks instead.

★Adding a source after after any copied or borrowed statement.
Example;

High blood pressure (HBP), is a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated. Source

By clicking the source in the above statement, the reader will be able to know where it originated from. Make sure to add the source after every statement if they are more than one.

Steemit Etiquette

These are set of rules and regulations that guide users. Some Steemit Etiquettes include;

  1. Do not overpost. Only post contents when necessary. It is also advisable to limit your number of posts per day. About 2 - 3 posts per day should be okay.

  2. Do not post nudity without the NSFW tag. The reason for this is because you might not know who the reader is (could be a child). Nude images without this tag are likely to be flagged.

  3. Do not plagiarize other people's work. Always make sure to give reference or credit to any information in your content that consist of other people's work (citation).

  4. Do not engage in tag spamming. Do not use a tavv if your post does not directly relate to it. A post about food should not be tag with "sports" or "cryptocurrency".

  5. Do not flag posts or contents unnecessarily. Do not flag people's posts just because you disagree with them. Only flag contents that are harmful or abusive. Source

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on the Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
