Achievement 3: content etiquette on steemit by @amoakdaniel

in Newcomers' Community2 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians,

Today, I'm going to discuss my thoughts on plagiarism. You will learn in this article;

  1. The meaning of Plagiarism
  2. Types of Plagiarism
  3. Reasons People Plagiarize
  4. How To Avoid Plagiarism In Steemit
  5. Citation

Meaning of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. In educational contexts, there are differing definitions of plagiarism depending on the institution. Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics.

It is the act of copying or using someone else's work or idea without their knowledge or permission. Plagiarism is most commonly committed on the internet. People steal other people's content, photographs, articles, and so on.

Plagiarism is basically stealing because the owner is unaware and has not given permission. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited on steemit, as it is on many other websites. It is obvious that doing so has consequences.

For example;
Taking large portions of a source's text and not citing it.
Using someone else's work and submitting it as your own

Types of Plagiarism

Plagiarism can be classified into four categories. These are the following:

  1. Direct plagiarism
    When a writer plagiarizes another's work without acknowledging that the article came from another source, this is known as direct plagiarism. This, in my opinion, is the most serious form of plagiarism.

For example:
A writer is currently working on a new article. He plagiarizes articles from other websites and publishes them under his name on his website rather than writing them himself.

  1. Mosaic plagiarism
    Mosaic plagiarism occurs when a writer plagiarizes someone else's work and makes minor changes to make it look unique.

  2. Self Plagiarism
    This type of plagiarism entails copying one's own work and submitting it multiple times. Because the owner will not seek legal action against himself, this type of plagiarism carries a smaller consequence.

  3. Accidental Plagiarism
    When a person uses someone else's ideas without properly citing the source, this is known as accidental plagiarism.

Reasons People Plagiarize

  1. Desire to achieve a high grade.
  2. Procrastination
  3. Laziness
  4. Academic illiteracy

How To Avoid Plagiarism In Steemit

  • Before submitting, use a plagiarism checker.
  • Present your idea
  • Cite your source
  • Include quotations

Citation

The act of referring readers to a source of your work is known as citation. As a result, readers are aware that you borrowed ideas from a variety of sources for your article.

Types of Citation

There are three main types of citations. These are;

  • Chicago
  • Modern Language Association
  • American Psychological Association

Below, I am going to site a source of a photo.

You need to write the Meaning of Plagiarism part like this in blocks:

Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. In educational contexts, there are differing definitions of plagiarism depending on the institution. Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics.

This would be your example of text citation as well.

Add following lines at the end of the post, if you have fully understood about plagiarism.

"" I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my nest to embrace them.""

Can you please explain further by what you meant "in blocks".

Write like this. See this ">" in the beginning.
