ProWriters Hub Week 3: Tutorial On How To Make Ankara HeadBand 25/7/2022
Preamble
HI all, welcome to week 3 of the ProWriters Hub Week. The past two weeks have been so exciting with beautiful and educative topics and this week is equally packed with hot topics to write about and I'm not gonna miss out. This post is all about making a Ankara Sunflower Head Band. Join me.
Before commencing, let's get to know what a head band is.
What Is A Head Band?
A head band is simply an ornament used by the female folks in adorning their hairs or hold it back from the face
When worn, it adds beauty to a person's hair and complements the dressing.
Head bands are usually fanciful and of different sizes, colors and types.
Types of Head Band?
Head bands has various types some of which are;
- Alice Head band
- Bowknot Hairband
- Scarf head band
- Floral head band
- Ponytail headband
- Turban head band
- Glitters / Sequins head band
- Golden laurel head band
In making head band, you can use materials from ankara, satin, lace, sequins, just name and it will come out fine. For this post, we will focus on ankara sunflower head band.
Materials Needed
To make this head band, we would be needing the following materials;
Ankara fabric
Hand Needle and thread of matching color of the fabric.
Gum ( Uhu, B-6000 or normal shoe gum)
Scissors
Pen for drawing
Alice band
A round object
Embellishments like cover button, rice, flower, for decoration.
Steps
Step 1
- Placing the circular object on the back side of the fabric, and using your own, draw circles of equal sizes. You can draw up to 6 or 8 circles as you wish.
Step 2
- Cut out the material in the circular shapes drawn very carefully.
Step 3
- Pick the cut out fabric and fold into two equal parts. Using needle and thread, run stitches through it starting from where the the two ends met. Do this for all the cut out fabrics.
Note: Leave excess rope behind so that when you are through with joining all together you pull the two ropes together and tie very tight like the image below
Step 4
- Decorate the ankara sunflower with either cover button, rice, flower or any embellishment of choice.
Step 5
- Measure fabric material such that can cover the alice band and cut out.
- Apply gum all over the alice band and the cut material. If you are using normal shoe gum allow to dry first but if it's Uhu gum, place the material immediately on the alice band and make it cover the band very well.
Step 6
- Apply gum on both the band and the ankara sunflower. After that place the sunflower ankara on any side of the band you wish.
Your ankara head band is ready to be worn.
You may wish to also make a matching ankara earrings to go with it. Check the tutorial here
End Note
Ankara head bands are fanciful, trendy, very much in vogue, and can be worn to church, events, weddings, work, market, virtually anywhere. You may even learn more about it and start making them for sale, and I tell you, you will make massive sales.
Thanks for being there. Best wishes.
