My food/day started early, with a good cup of coffee.
Even though it was Sunday, I had to work in the studio, so I made some coffee and buttered toasts. While the coffee was brewing, I washed and served some pimps for a morning dose of polyphenols.
After I worked for a couple of hours, I went to the supermarket for some fruit and other supplies.
Among the things I bought were the apples, pears, peaches and blackberries I used for my dad's cake.
We had proper breakfast really late, almost at 11 a.m. I fried eggs, made arepas coated with sesame seeds, and also prepared some hot oatmeal.
.
I like to sprinkle a good amount of ground cinamon on my oatmeal.
After I had breakfast, I started working on my father's birthday cake. His birthday was actually on the 4th, but but all his children had to work, so we decided to have a simple celebration on Sunday, when we were all free.
The first thing was to prepare the Genoise sponge cake.
To prepare this cake, I used 9 eggs, 400 grams of sugar, 300 grams of leavening flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and a dash of vanilla.
The first thing I did was to beat the egg whites to stiff peaks. In this step I also added the salt.
Then I added the sugar.
Then I added the egg yolks and vanilla.
Finally, I sifted the flour and folded it in little by little.
I distributed the mixture into two greased (only margarine) baking trays and baked each for 25 minutes at 250 degrees F.
I find this cake ideal for cold cakes, like the one I made for my dad, because it has a lot of air to absorb liquids, it does not stick to the mold and it is flexible, so you can cut it in layers very easily.
While the Genoise spoonge cakes were baking, I started to cook the fruits in syrup.
I like to cook the fruits myself because they are much tastier than the canned ones and although it is much more work, it is also much more economical (then I can use more quantity).
I cooked all the fruits, except the blackberries. I used those fresh only for decoration.
I forgot to take pictures of lunch. It was really very simple, a mixed grain soup, beef and smoked meats. We cut the cake at 6 pm. The cake was soft, well soaked in syrup and evaporated milk. The pastry cream was just right and the fruit was very tasty.
The cake had a soft creamy aroma and an intense fruity smell. My father loved it.
We got home at 8 p.m. and an hour later we were eating dinner.
I stuffed the pita bread with cheese and toasted it and prepared a salad of lettuce, carrots and pimps. I used yogurt with lemon and fresh crushed garlic as dressing.
And these were the highlights of my food-day. I hope you had a great one, too.

Ciertamente quedó sabrosa y no quedó nadita.
Llegué tarde a esa felicitación.
