Ever heard of Purple Yam?? Let's try Sri Lankan style Purple Yams

Hi Steemians,


Today I'm going to share with you a tasty Experience.This is one of my favorite breakfast. Because it is tasty and also very easy to prepare. It's boiled purple yummy.

Purple yams have many names. In Tamil it's called "Rasavalli kilangu"and this yums is also called "water yums", "winged yum" and "ratalu" and Philippines say "ube".

Usually in Srilanka it's available in January. It's native to southeast Asia but now it grows in Australia, China and Africa.
Purple yums are very special. This can be taken as a snack, main meal or as a sweet.

Today I am explaining purple yams for the main meal in breakfast.

Easy & nutrious breakfast Purple yams

INGREDIENT

  • Purple yums (medium size)
  • Salt
  • Water

Step 01 - preparation of purple yums

To prepare first, wash and a yums should be peeled with a knife to remove it's skin.Then cut the yum into evenly sized cubes.

Cautious :- purple yums quite slippery thing, once peeled, and it will quickly fly out.

Step 02

Then you can place in a pressure cooker to steam.The Yum with 3 whistles on high flame.If you can use a sauce pan and fill with it water to cover and add little of salt.Then lower the heat to maintain a gentle simmer.

Today I am preparing in a saucepan. So after 30 min test the yum for doneness with a spoon. When yum seems mashable, turn off the cooker and drain most of the water from the pan.

Step 03 - Ready to serve

After that you can transfer to yums on a plate. We usually serve this yum with a grated coconut and katta sambol (it's made with onions, chili, salt and lime). That combination is perfect. As well as let me tell you some information about the purple yums.

Purple yums are the fastest growing and it's normal about 20-25 meters tall with supporting tree. These yummy dishes are very healthy and delicious. This is a very energetic defense towards cell damage.

It is a good source of nutrients. It's full of vitamin B6, carbohydrate, copper, Vitamin C, potassium, total dietary fiber, Vitamin B1, iron and Zinc.

HEALTH BENEFITS

  • Anti - cancer
    Purple yums is a highly antioxidant vegetable.It can control the cancer cells in the body.
  • Proper blood circulation
    Purple yums is called anthocyanin. Because purple pigments that give color to the meat of purple yum. It doesn't serve as an antioxidant that absorbs air pollution.

USEFUL TIPS

  • When you buy purple yams, you should be careful about the skin of yums.Because wrinkles skin means yums are old.
  • If you have a garden, I suggest cutting a small piece of yum and planting it.It can be done easily and that plant will give
    you a very big harvest.
  • Yums cut them into equal sized pieces.Because different sized pieces are boiled at different times.

purple yams is looking very much nice, i saw it first time, i am not getting idea that what is purple yams , may i can find it in my area or country but i know i did not see this in my district ,so i feeling so much that how can i find it and i want to eat it, it is realy very much easy to prepare in breakfast with just few ingredient that is amazing, so i know srilanka is very great country in food so i love srilanka food recipe and love to read here on steemit
