Introduction

sap204.png

It is a good feeling being on the Steemit platform. I have made some new friends this past few months, most of which I haven't seen physically.

I have learned a lot also by engaging on the platform. I have improved my writing skills, I learned how to edit text and images, and much more.

My dream is that others too can get the chance to experience what I'm experiencing on the platform and get the good feeling I get.

How well is Steemit known in your Country?

sap204.png

Steemit is a social platform where users come together and engage each others with post production and commenting on each other's post. It is an exciting platform because when you engage in it meaningfully you get rewarded for your efforts.

Unfortunately, not so many Nigerians know about Steemit. And I feel this is not something good because it is a great platform where anyone can come to and make a 'good' living for themselves, provided that learn the platform, are active, and follow the required rules.

Looking at some communities that are created by Nigerians to help new users (Nigerians) participate in the Steemit platform successfully and meaningfully we can deduce some inference.

When we look at the SteemAlive community, there are more than 8,000 members who has signed up to the platform and joined, but unfortunately there's only 187 that are currently active. That's a far cry in the relationship between the registered members and active members.

SteemAlive community

If we also look at another community, Steem4Nigeria,
we will also see a similar occurrence. Steem4nigeria has 845 registered members with only 274 members being active. However, Steem4Nigeria is relatively new hence the less number of registered members.

Steem4nigeria

I also want to add that the number of active users in these two communities is due to the fact that they are hosting the Steemit engagement challenge presently, so other users from other communities are there which has increased the active members. By the time the challenge is over the numbers goes back to their usual.

I suppose there are many reasons why it is so, but In my little time here, i believe one of them is a good retention policy for both the Nigerian communities and Steemit at large. If a better way of retaining new users are reached, I feel it will expose Steemit more.

After all who no like better thing? 🤷🤷

Do you think it's popular enough or there is a need for more publicity?

From what I have said above, it is obvious that it is not popular enough. Though i have somehow met other people who have been on the platform before and left, they are not that many. It is just like throwing a stone inside a lake.

I can even go on further to say that there's no promotion of Steemit on any social media.

When I did light research of Steemit in Nigeria what I saw was not encouraging. On Twitter, I saw a handle labelled steeminnigeria with just 208 followers and 278 tweets. The last time a tweet was made in was as far back as 2020.

IMG_20220627_161159_621.jpg Twitter

Then when I went through the account, I realized that it wasn't even the original Steemit platform that we are used to that the page was about. Rather it was something random with Steemit as the name.

I also came across a page on Facebook about Steemit in Nigeria, the last time they made a post was on the 10th of September, 2020.

I realized that Steemit is not being publicized. Even if it is, it is not done properly. I can only hope that this situation changes in the future.

What are the ways you think the promotion of Steemit can be more effective in your Country?

sap204.png

Promotion of Steemit is very necessary because that is supposed to be the backbone of the platform. For more users to join the Steemit platform, then there has to be massive promotion.

Some of the ways I think promotion of Steemit can be carried out are:

1. Having a presence on Social Media. In today's world, the main stay of people is online. The internet has been able to make this possible. People have phones and laptops that are connected to the internet. On the internet, there are so many places that people are located. The best of them are called social media.

We have social medias like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. There are millions upon millions of people in these platforms. Having a presence in these platforms would bring about attention to the Steemit platform, which can go on to bring more people to the platform.

Currently the engagement on social media is minimal at best and this isn't good for Steemit.

2. Word of mouth advertising. This is another way by which the platform can grow. It is always easier when friends tell their friends about something, it brings about curiosity, authenticity, and credibility.

I can remember a story in season one of the engagement challenge where @ngoenyi said she was introduced to Steemit by @focusnow. I thought to myself if Focusnow had kept quiet, Ngoenyi wouldn't have known about Steemit. I believe this is true for so many people.

3. A good retention policy. Having a good retention policy is going to increase the engagement on the Steemit platform. From my little time here, I have noticed a lot of people come and go. This is not a good omen.

I think having a good retention policy would increase the rate of people coming in and staying rather than leaving after a spending few time here. I know some people who for some personal reasons are not interested in Steemit.

Other ways can be employed, but I think the 3 points listed above are sufficient.

Do you think Steemit would be adopted more in your country if the points you listed above are implemented?

sap204.png

Yes, I strongly believe that with the above listed ways of promoting Steemit, there would be a lot of engagement.

When there is a social media presence, it brings publicity to Steemit which makes people inquiry about the platform. Once they get satisfied with their inquiries, it becomes easier for them to get into the platform because they already have an idea about the platform and little knowledge about what the platform is about.

Also, with the online presence, people can have their questions about the platform answered easily, this gives a good reputation and credibility about the platform, and this would make more people want to join. Lastly, having a presence on social media makes it easier for people to reach out to the Steemit platform.

Word of mouth is also very good too. Like I said, Focusnow had to inform Ngoenyi about Steemit. I was introduced to Steemit by my friend and mentor @theopportunist. Without him, I wouldn't have known that such a platform exists.

Then having a proper retention policy is going to be great to the Steemit platform. Just image that so many people come to the platform and leave for reasons best known to them as is the case in SteemAlive.

With a good retention policy, as more users troop in to the platform, less people would leave.

Imagine having to run the three processes concurrently, Steemit would be on the lips of everyone.

How have you contributed your quota to the development of Steemit in your community?

sap204.png

I haven't contributed a great deal to the development of Steemit.

One of the main reasons is because I haven't benefited to a satisfactory level. I have been on the platform since February when I joined and I haven't really gained much. It is only once I withdrew from the platform and that's because I was really down and needed something to hang on to.

Now, I'm not saying that it is only about the rewards. It is much more than the rewards, however, one of the attractions to Steemit is the potential to earn rewards as you engage meaningfully on the platform.

If I haven't eaten well, can I tell someone else to come and join me?

However, with time I still believe that I can start getting the full benefits of being on the Steemit platform. So i tried to promote the platform in my own little way because I believe people should know about Steemit.

IMG_20220627_174504_877.jpg

IMG_20220627_174441_259.jpg

I spoke to the head of a cryptocurrecy group informing him about the need for people to know about Steemit. With time I will engage more people about the platform.

Conclusion

sap204.png

Steemit is a great platform which helps people to engage with others and grow. The best part is you can earn a living just being on Steemit.

I believe with proper promotion of Steemit there would be a lot of engagement by people from my Country. It will help them see the potential and the benefits of being on Steemit.

I hereby invite @olabillions, @pearlofwisdom, @chichieze, @samuel20, @emmanu, to participate in this wonderful contest.

Hello @yakspeace,

Thanks for going through my post I appreciate it well.

You are welcome my dear friend 🤗

Outstanding post, why don't we improvise as regards the social media pages you found, create any you which to own, and start promoting Steemit in your little way, you can choose to promote with either Facebook or twitter, promotion is true at the back bone do the platform with promotion I was able to find Steemit, when more people are onboard, it will help the platform and the value is steem in the long run

Hello @olabillions,

You are very correct. But running the page is not easy especially for someone like me who isn't Strong enough.

But I'm glad to share. Thank you.

Haha, who says you are not strong enough.
You never know what you can do until you do it

I really love the way you made the points stand out. Especialy you looked into a crucial area of having so many subscribers but very few active users. One of the major problems is that there is not proper reward structure for newbies. We recruit lots of people, but they will definitely become inactive because they are less than impressed with the first few days of publishing here. so I believe until we create a proper reward structure that will make newbies want to stay, we will always struggle

Hello @focusnow,

It is something that I looked at and couldn't get my mind off. I always wondered why there's so much members but less active ones.

You have just clearly stated the reason. I was trying so hard to put it as such.

Thank you for going through my post.

Yeah, you spoke well regarding having a page on social media as this will boost the promotion and make the platform so popular and as such, many people will get to know about the platform so well. Nice article you have presented. Greetings!

Greetings @solexybaba,

Yes it is true that having a presence on social media would be helpful to grow the Steemit platform NY making it popular.

Thank you for reading.

You have written so well.I appreciate your markdown style and line of thought.Steemit has not achieved the popularity that it deserves in Nigeria.

I agree with you, having social presence (adverts on social media),word of mouth awareness and retention policy are good ways to sustain and make steemit more popular although you did explain what you meant by retention policy.

One of the main reasons is because I haven't benefited to a satisfactory level

The price of steem and other cryptocurrencies is low, thus making your portfolio to look low in value. In time,it would rise.

Hello @samuel20,

What I meant by retention policy is a way of making new users stay with respect to rewards gained and how welcoming the platform is to them.

For me not benefiting much I don't think it's just the price of Steem, although it is a good point too.

Unfortunately, not so many Nigerians know about Steemit

Here I was thinking we had a lot of Nigerians on steemit😂.

I can understand where this is coming from. The population in Nigeria is so much that sometimes even plenty might mean nothing.

However, Steem4Nigeria is relatively new hence the less number of registered members

Yep, steem4Nigeria is new so this might be a factor. But I must say that nonetheless they have put in massive work and their community is thriving.

Having a presence on Social Media

Having a presence in social media is ideal. But as you stated without consistency a social media handle will be useless. As you have raised the concern of the steeminnigeria accounts last tweet being on 2020 this raises a lot of concern.

Having a good retention policy is going to increase the engagement on the Steemit platform. From my little time here, I have noticed a lot of people come and go. This is not a good omen.

Yes, this is really important.

A person who stays on steemit and is active is something who loves steemit. With newbies the problem sometimes come from the person who signed them up. I’ve had friends sign people up and after helping write their introduction post they ignore them and that’s it.

We all know that when you join steemit in the beginning it is very difficult as sometimes how to even place your tags correctly is a problem.

Hello @rubilu123,

You have taken your time to go through my post, I appreciate that.

When you look at the situation of Nigeria and population of Nigeria, then you see the number of people present in Steemit. Then you will know that Nigerians are not much on the platform.

Like you have rightly said, so many people leave Steemit after their first week to a month. It's only those that want to make a mark that really stays behind.

However, I believe things can be done in such a way that as more people come, more people stays.

You have prepared a good analysis about the number of steemians in your country; In the same way, your advertising proposals are very successful, they would attract more users.

Until now you have not obtained major rewards, however, you feel committed to spreading the benefits of Steemit.

Yes @yolvijrm

I believe by going through this process we will have a lot of use from my country on Steemit.

And even though I haven't had any major rewards, I still feel people should be aware of the platform.

You've made a very detailed report of steemit in our country. It's true that steemit is not very popular in Nigeria and that some who has joined are not active. Thus there is a great need for more promotions. Thank you for your suggestions and contributions, they will be very effective if put to practice. And it takes great motivation and teamwork to achieve them.

Yes dear, it takes a lot of effort and team work to bring Steemit to the Nigerian people.

We can do our best and hope it works out.
