Hi Steem4Nigeria, it's your favourite neighbourhood watcher again coming to you with the latest news around my neighbourhood. I hope we're all doing great and are well too?

So recently, the news has been all around of my beloved country changing her national anthem. At first, I just thought it was a joke until I saw it posted on Facebook, one of the social media platforms where the National Assembly, that is, the House of Representatives and the Senate Assembly, commonly known as the "Red Chamber," have a joint seating, which our beloved President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in attendance. That a Bill was passed to change the anthem that we have been singing for decades to the one which was sung in the country in the 60s after the independence of Nigeria from the British. Read

So there are arguments here and there, people saying they won't sing and others saying it was the best for the country. So the news of the new abi "revived" old anthem has been everywhere. Many people are asking why the anthem is being changed when Nigerians are so hungry and impoverished, when there is inflation in the cost of items in the country. They are asking if the anthem was the problem of the country or if it is the way out of poverty and the many troubles befalling the country.

For me, it seems the anthem has come to stay, since many people are already falling in love with it and some schools have already begun using it after their morning devotion. Yours truly is a teacher, the school I teach is not left out in the singing of this "old/new or revived"anthem.

To enable the students to get the lyrics of the anthem well, the Civic Education teacher has copied the anthem on the school devotion board for easy understanding by the students.

The interesting thing is that many Nigerians are tired, they have lost confidence in our leaders and the country, they see the introduction of such anthems as a waste of time and misplaced priority. If you're a Nigerian reading this, what's your take on the current anthem? What are your thoughts on these? I'm eager to read and learn from others.

It's @eveetim, reporting from the city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣
You people will not kill me in this una country Nigeria.
Like we were even trying to cope with the new or old/revive anthem as you called it, another thing happened again. I mean the issue of minimum wage and the ongoing strike in the country.

This is no longer funny, because that is a strong thing that has happened to my dearly beloved country but we will not give up, rather we will adjust to it... Some people will say "We die here"...🤣🤣🤣.
