Reasons why I love my country

  • Nigeria Foods

If it's one thing that Nigerians are good it'll be cooking, Nigerians are so diverse that every culture/tribe has their own type of foods. My parents are both from Igbo tribe which also makes me an Igbo man.

My most favourite meal from Igbo origin is that of Utara na Ofe which is commonly known as Swallow and Soup is a type of food that is eaten without chewing as the name suggests. The "swallow" is made of starch from legumes like cassava and yam which is cooked with hot water and served with any desired soup. Below is a picture of this appetizing dish

My second favourite Igbo meal is that of "Abacha" which is made from dried cassava slice and cooked with oil, onions, peppers and many other ingredients. Below is a picture of this delicious meal.

Other popular dishes that Nigeria is known for are; Jollof and Fried Rice, Àkàrà (Fried Bean Cake), Pepper Soup, Suya (Spicy Grilled Kebab), Asaro (Yam Porridge) and Moin Moin/Okpo Oka (Bean/Corn Pudding).

  • Nigeria Music

Another thing I love about my country is the music, Nigerians are so talented when it comes to music, one of the most idolised Nigerian singer is no other than Fela Aníkúlápó popularly known as Fela Kuti. This man created an image for all Nigerians through his music as he sang against injustice and rights abuse. Fela Kuti was born on 15th October 1938 and died on 2nd August, 1997 due to issues relating to AIDS.

Today, the Nigerian music industry has changed alot with the reign of famous Nigerian musicians going international. Names of popular Nigerian musicians include Davido, Burnaboy and WizKid, there are the top 3 artist currently in Nigeria.

  • Nigeria National Resources

Nigeria has been gifted with numerous national resources with Oil as it's Top abundant resource in the country. Oil was first discovered in 1956, 4years before getting her independence. Since then, Nigeria has been exporting about 1340 barrels per day.

Nigeria also have other resources which are ; Coal, Lead , Natural Gas, Iron Ore, tin, Gold and and arable land. With all being said, these are the three top aspects I love about my country, but Nigeria has been having some issues with insecurities and corruption Which I'll further explain below...

Changes I want to see in my country

  • Better Educational System

Nigeria youths have been suffering and eagerly waiting for an improvement in the educational sector. Virtually every year there must be some sort of strike regarding the Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which Will result to temporarily closing down of universities.

images (4).jpeg
Source

ASUU controls a lot of Public universities in Nigeria and when every their demands are not considered then they will some consequences, I know there's the option of going to q private university but the tuition fees there are just too expensive. As a fellow Nigerian, I would like to see this issue resolved.

  • More Job Opportunity

Apart from the falling educational system, Job availablity have seen a decrease in the past years, most Nigerians are struggling to find a source of income even after graduating. This has prove to be a decline in our economy and youths might engage in malicious activity to fed for themselves.

I want the Nigerian government to create more job opportunities for our graduates and undergraduates so they don't have Engage in something they would regret. I love how the steemit platform gave we us a means of generating income when we're away from the strike and it has made more Nigerians grow interest into Cryptocurrencies. I just hope that the government will sort out this issue.

  • Better Security

This topic has been discussed over and over again with the Nigerian government, the level of insecurity in the country is just unbearable. Since the advent of Book Haram Terrorism, Nigeria's economy has seen a massive decline even with the exportation of oil and our native currency (Naira) is also losing its value.

Nigeria Also had the issue with farmers and Herdmans, when farmers refuse to let the herdmans cattle and animal graze on their farms. This let to an escalation between them and the fight resulted in many innocent lives lost. With all these happening in Nigeria, I'm certain that the government are to be blamed for all this, since they have the power and authority why don't they implement new policies to tackle this insurgency. Well I just hope our voices are heard...

Conclusion

To sum up everything above, Nigeria itself has a good side and bad side, if we're too engaged in the good side and fail to sort out the bad side, then I'm afraid to say that we'll all suffer an unpleasant end. Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a great day.

Sort:

As a fellow Nigerian I honestly do love our music is a thing of joy but also the area of education is one where I honestly believe that above all else the leaders have failed woefully as they are murdering the educational system of the country by their failure to provide adequate infrastructure and funds for revitalisation and payment of her staffs salaries which has lead to strike action by the union, indeed we are a great country with lots of mineral resources but I sincerely believe that the country's education system has become an object of mediocrity

You've said it all brother, the government are to be blamed for not properly utilizing the national budget used for payments of staff and workers.

Even with the rising prices of crude oil, Nigeria still lack behind despite the money they're making. I just hope this suffering will end soon.

We could only hope and do the best we can for ourselves. Steem on😀

Nice post @ronindboss we have a naturally endowed nation and talented people

I can't say we are not developing or retarding🤦🤦my country was supposed to be the coolest place to stay but leader are making it hell for citizens

Exactly my friend, that's why I want every Nigerians to try and vote in this upcoming election, this way we'll show our determination in making Nigeria a better place for everyone. May I ask, will you be voting in the election?

Chai such a lovely post, you actually spoke my mind man. Especially

Better Educational System
Nigeria youths have been suffering and eagerly waiting for an improvement in the educational sector. Virtually every year there must be some sort of strike regarding the Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which Will result to temporarily closing down of universities. This has destroyed so my destiny and plans for the future generations and nobody want to put an end to it. For example i got admission into the university since 2017 for a 4 years course but now i am still a student after 6 years. I would be greatful if the strike comes to an end.

This is exactly what I'm saying, the issue of these strike has prolonged our intented duration, with the hold up of all these undergraduates, more youths willing aspiring to go to university will lose interest and they'll look for another means of surviving. My teacher once told me that education is the key, but from. What I've seen, it's money that's the key in this Nigeria. If you don't have money, you won't be able to survive and control other people. So i pray that this everlasting issue should be resolved before next year. Thanks for visiting my post...

I was starting to wonder when someone would talk about Nigerian music..

Oh my days...
There is something about Nigerian music, with the likes of blackbonez, buju, daddishoki, wizkid and this is just me calling the mid artist.

For a very long time music has been my soul food and most especially when I listen to fela I can hear the voice of Africa in his lyrics.

.it's so sad that vices fela preached about some 3 years ago in his music is still happening

Fella was an artist far ahead of his time. He was a pace maker non like the world would ever see ...

Zombie ohh zombiee
I imploy anyone listening take time and research about the great fela Ani kuti. Nigerians musical mastro.

The guy who defied the government

The walking dead man.

I'm happy to see my fellow Nigerian embracing the good will of our dear Fela Kuti, it makes me believe that we can't easily forget about pasts and the horrible things that happened. Fela was the Nigerian Martin Luther king Jr, he lead and advice people through his music, it's so tragic that he passed away before I was born, I would have loved to see him, but he's survived by his son, Femi Kuti who surprisingly was also a musician and instrumentalist, you should try to listen to his song, you'll love it... Thanks for visiting my post friend...

Funny you should say bhe survied by a son.

Martin Luther survived by a daughter

Perhaps younno 🌚🌚

We could get martin fela

😂😂

You need divine help😂

A very nice work. Indeed Nigeria needs to improve in their level of security and educational system.

This reoccurance of Asuu strike is a clear indication that Nigeria government that give a dime about their youths and it is very heartbreaking.

I hope things changes with the coming government.

You have said it all brother, the government isn't doing anything at all to settle this matter, this has been going on for years and still no results. I just pray that the next set of governor will know what to do about this. Thanks for reading...

It sad to read about things you want to change in a country that claim to be the 'Giant of Africa'. There are many things good about Nigeria just as you mentioned food and music but I know with better government I can finally achieve our full potential and that has to happen now. I really love your post steem on brother.

Giant of Africa my ass, the only Nigeria is good at is corruption, we have crude oil and land mass, but in reality Nigeria is just struggling above the water. This problem escalated after the 2015 general election and when Mohammed Buhari wa elected as president, during his tenure, he promised to raise back our currency which at that time was 180 Naira to 1 dollar but today 1 dollar is approximately 600 Naira, after we had experience this setbacks, I thought Nigerians would have learned a lesson but it seems ignorance is our specialty. We elected Mr. Buhari again in the 2019 general elections and we fell for his fake promises and ambitions. Good thing the next election is coming up next year and I hope all Nigerians would have learned a lesson then. Thanks for reading my post... Greetings from Nigeria...

I am not sorry to say he is the worse we have every had. Many fake promising country just keep going down.

If we are just given a chance to elect a young leader with vision for Nigeria, then we'll not be in this situation as we speak. If I may ask, will you be voting in the upcoming election?

That is a good question. Yes I will that if they is a candidate worth my vote.

Glad you could reply back,

If there's a candidate that's worthy of our vote, we'll surely vote for him/her. I just pray we can actually see one because everyone is just untruthful.

Young with the evil young people do nowadays and how selfish they are

It's quite unfortunate that this is happening in our generation, the government are to be held accountable for this. Thanks for dropping a comment..🤗

For me buhari is not Nigeria problem
We all are

Amazing post ronin really great

Thanks for reading till the end friend.

I just hope that prominent personnels who have power to the government could just stumble upon our various 3C's about Nigeria and come to our aid! The educational System of Nigeria says 6-6-4, but ASUU and federal government turned it to 6-6-infinity.

This is so outrageous!! It is pertinent to put our educational System as first in this country because the youths are the leaders of tomorrow!

Thanks for sharing this with us

Nice of you to drop your opinion, truly the system is corrupt to the core and the government and people in charge are to be blamed. If this government should be changed next year, I hope the newly elected ones will work for the betternesss of Nigeria. Thanks for reading my post.
