Embilipitiya DGH provides massive support to the health sector and to the country in the current pandemic situation. They are providing services to the Embilipitiya Covid Centre (200 max capacity) other than it is maintaining 2 covid words and ICU in the hospital to treat infected peoples. But they don’t have facilities to conduct the PCR testing for the same. The practice is to transfer the sample to the Rathnapura teaching hospital for testing. Therefore, it is normally taking 3-4 days to receive the results. This delay in testing will directly affect the spread of the virus, the release of recovered patients and the release of suspected dead bodies.

Idea –

Recently the rate of infection gets high in the Embilipitiya and the surroundings. Therefore, one idea came as to buy a PCR machine for the hospital. The collection of the donation was handled by the hospital development committee and Bhodhiraja Foundation. The budgeted value was around LKR 6.5 million.

Fundraising –

In recent days most works carried out with the help of social media. In this case, also they used social media to convey this massage among others. Around 16th May 2021, they started to collect donation. Thanks to the people with generous hearts, more than LKR 10 million within 6 days. On the 6th day of collecting they announced that, they have received enough money and kindly requested to stop the funding.

Contribution from Steem Sri Lanka |Sl-Charity-

After the short discussion had with the members in Steem Sri Lanka, the decision was made to fund LKR 25,000.00 for the PCR machine. Money was deposited on 21st May 2021 to the account.

Progress –

The advance payment was made on 20th May 2021 parallel to the fundraising. On 2nd June 2021, the complete PCR machine was delivered to the hospital. But for the testing, there was no suitable place at that time. But they have started to build a new laboratory to accommodate. Construction works are in progress, and they hope to complete within this month (June 2021).
