Weekly CRICKET Review - IX | ODI Super League
After the t20 World cup, now the teams are targeting the ODI world cup to be held in India, next year. This year's competition is a bit different as World Cup Super League format is undergoing before the world cup.
13 teams are playing 24 matches each and the top 8 teams will directly qualify for the World cup. And other 5 have to play with associate teams and the top 2 will get selected.
So, let's see what happened in the last week with this situation!!!
New Zeland won the ODI series 1-0 against India
After the t20 series, India faced three-match series against New Zealand under the captaincy of Dhawan.
- India batted first in the first match and put a huge total of 306 runs on the board. Indian top 03 Dhawan, Gill and Iyer scored half centuries. Washinton Sundar played a little cameo at the end to scoing 37 off 16.
But New Zealand didn't give up that easily. Kane Williomason (94) and Tom Latham (145) created history with a massive partnership of 221 runs chasing the target within just 47 overs with 7 wickets in hand. It was the second highet partnership for the fourth wicket and their second best chase against India. And New Zeland's 13th consecutive ODI win at home.
- But unfortunately next two matches were washed away due to rain.
Sri Lanka vs Afganistan ODI series (1-1 drawn)
Well Afganistan came for Sri Lanka for their first ODI series. They have a really good talent, we have seen that through out the last few series even though with series war scenes in the country.
The first match was great display by Afghans under pressure. They put a total of 294/8. Ibrahim Zadran scored a beautiful hundred and Gurbaz, Rhamath contribute with half tons. But Sri Lankans could only make 234/10. Nissanka made 5 runs and finally Hasaranga played a little cameo scoring 66 off 46 balls.
Second match was dirupted due to rain. And the third match was held on yesterday. Afghans bat first and lost three wicketsin 14 overs for 57. But once again Ibrahim Zadran just toyed Sri Lankan bowlers this time with Najibullah. He scored 162 runs till the end of the innings and give a target of 314 runs.
The openers Pathum and Kusal started the innings in the chase with 101 runs partnership. But 3 wickets fallen quickly. And they were 164-4 after 30 overs. Then Charith and Dasun build up the innings, but Rashid got two wickets in one over and in the final 6 overs Sri Lanka had to score 62 runs with only 4 wickets in hand.
But young Wellalage and Charith secured a famous win with super knocks under pressure. Ironically these both were former under 19 captains of Sri Lanka.
- There are two Test series just started. England tour of Pakistan and West Indies tour of Australi. Let's see the result in the next episode.
