Once saved, always saved? Do you agree or disagree?

in Christian Fellowship4 years ago

This post is a bit of an experimental post for me. I want to see how our community responds and reacts to some of the more tricky theologies in our faith. If it goes well, I want to perhaps have more of these discussions regularly.

Before I get into the question for this week, I want to say that the reason I bring this up is that I think it's helpful for our thinking and our own theology when we here different perspectives, and how people arrived at different views. I know my theology has evolved over time, and I want to explore some of these questions here. I also want to see more engagement and discussion in our community and would like to hear from all of you regardless of your views.

Once saved, always saved?

When I first became a Christian, my church taught Once save, always saved., meaning that you can't lose your salvation.

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Please provide some scriptures and reasoning to support your views. And please keep the discussions respectful.

Also, if there's any other topics you want me to explore with our Christian Fellowship community, please let me know in the comments below.

Blessings
Jimmy

Letting the scriptures speak for themselves

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

That said, I think once you are in the family, God will do everything to keep you and restore you. In the end you can reject the salvation you once cherished.

Very well said brother. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with sister @glotokens
Salvation must be taken care of, once you reach the ways of the Lord, you must not stop looking for it and live in holiness, if you think that receiving him is already your salvation but you are still in a life of sin, hardly the holy spirit will remain in your heart, and in this way you have neglected your salvation, giving foot to the enemy to control your life.

Ezekiel 33:13

13 If I tell a righteous person that they will surely live, but then they trust in their righteousness and do evil, none of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered; they will die for the evil they have done.

Thanks for sharing sister. Some interesting discussions and views in this post. Appreciate all the input and enjoying reading all the comments.

Well most people feel that after being saved the have nothing else to do. If you do not work out your salvation with trembling then be sure to fall. If you are empty without daily seeking the holy spirit to fill you up always, then be sure too that the demon that left you will come back this time around not alone but with several other of it kind calling it legion.

So the above question by @nextgen622 will be true if you work out your salvation with trembling. Engage the holy spirit everyday. Then you will be saved everyday but if you do not then the statement Once saved, always saved will be a fallacy in your life.

God help us, Amen.

Thanks for sharing your view sister. I appreciate reading everyone’s thoughts and appreciate the your contribution to the discussion.

Yes, once you're truly saved it's impossible for you to lose your salvation. Check out these verses:

(1 John 2:19 NIV) They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

(Ephesians 4:30 NIV) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Thanks for sharing your view and for sharing these scriptures. Appreciate your involvement in the discussion. Blessings

Interesting theme, I wrote a contribution about it some time ago.

The problem is, if I write the same thing again in a comment steemcleaners will come and delete it because violation of Copyrights and so on, so hopefully it's ok if I post the link to my post where I've explained why Christians can lose their salvation according to the Bible and therefore have to be careful not to lose what they already have (Revelation 3:11).

That’s totally fine, yes I understand what you mean with regards to steemcleaners. Thanks for the link. I will take a look. Blessings
