Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W1|My traditional Wear: Lace Blouse, Etibo and Wrapper
Hello steemians!
How do you all do? It's another season of steemit engagement challenge and I'm here to take part in hot new community for week one.
Clothes signifies identity and culture, as such, traditional wears are worn to celebrate important event which defines our unity in great diversities.
I will be sharing what my traditional wear looks like, how much it cost, their durability and their similarities in other part of the world.
Wrapper is the major clothing in my region. Andoni/Obolo people are found both in Akwa Ibom State and Rivers State and they belong to the ethnic group in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Wrapper has been our major traditional clothing for both men and women (young and old).

The name of most common wrapper used by Obolo/Andoni people is called Mkpopu (George in english). Men tie their wrapper with Etibo (a short or long-sleeved shirt-like wear). The wrapper for men is usually tied to one side.
Women uses lace blouse to tie their own wrapper. They first of all tie a single one before wearing the blouse then tie another wrapper on top again.

This traditional outfit for women is also accompanied with gele, which is a traditional wrapper that is wrapped around the woman's head.
The price of the traditional wears depends on the quality you want.
Items | Price in naira | Price in Steem |
---|---|---|
Wrapper | #8,000 (depends on the quality) | 61.6 |
Etibo for men | #15,000 | 115.4 |
Lace blouse for women | #11,000 | 84.7 |
The wrappers are durable because they are very strong and can be passed from one generation to another with same quality (except it wasn't original). These wrappers are mostly worn to only important event like; church, marriage, traditional functions and other important occasions. This made the wrappers to stay longer without fading out because it is used once in a while.
The etibo for men can last up to 2 years or so, it depends on how they handle it. Lace blouse is not long-lasting at all,it requires premium care before it can last up to a year. Mine doesn't last at all because it is net and it get torn easily.
Yes, my traditional wears can be worn in other places because it defines you and the ethnic group you belong in the country and it is also for easy identification so it is allowed to wear to events outside the region
My traditional wear is similar to other ethnic group in my state/country. Like the Ibibios, they also make use of wrapper, etibo and blouse just like my place.
It is an honour to share about my traditional wears with other steemians here and also get to know about other people's culture in diversities.
Dear @eliany, @goodybest and @josepha, you are invited to join the challenge. Thank you!

We too have the Wrapper 😃 and we call it "Sarong". Also, Indians call it "Lungi", is it the same dress or, do you find it different?
Lungi is different from George but it can also use with blouse.
We have it here too.
