Mom you are old!

When it comes to technology, yes, I am old. ONLY when it comes to technology.

It is actually a statement that makes me smile, as, my hubby and I, have had a company that specializes in the IT sector by creating business-to-consumer software solutions for the real estate industry since 1994. It was a comprehensive Real Estate IT Solution answering to all the needs of the modern real estate agent and agency.

We were the first company in the world to develop a mobile application for real estate agents. We even received an international IT nomination and had to attend the award ceremony in Washington DC. This all happened as far back as 1999 on Symbian phones, which you don’t even get anymore.

This application allowed the real estate agent to list and manage property from outside the office.

• Provides each agent with their own interface listing tool
• Allows property sharing amongst other agents within the agency
• Great reporting on buyers and sellers, window listings, detailed property listings, and more

• Send SMS’s and emails directly to agents and contacts (bulk or single)

When my husband came up with the idea, he was laughed at. A couple of years later, you could pick and choose which application you would like to use, and he had to develop like mad to stay ahead of the competitors.

Firstly I want to address the question about technology and society.

YES! Technology has had an impact on society not only yesterday but also today and tomorrow. Here we had an impact on the real estate industry and later also financial institutions.
Later in my post, I will highlight the impact technology of the year 2023 will have on the lives of millions of women and men around the world.

Secondly, I want to stand still on the advantages of technology.

There are many technological advantages, but in the end, it all boils down to one thing: making life easier for you as an individual.

With our applications, we made life easier not only for the real estate agent but also for the buyer, the seller, the office, and the financial institution.

Now, my dear children. Yes, I am old when it comes to technology, as I have lived my life, and all I want is to make life comfortable for me.
📱 I want to use my phone for myself and not for you.
💻I want to use my laptop how I want to and in a way that makes me comfortable, not like you want to use it.

At least you cannot tell me that I am old school as technology is to be found all around me, even in my handbag.

Thirdly, it brings me to the industry in which I want to see technological advances.

Again, it comes down to the advantage that I’ve highlighted, which is to make life easier for me as an individual. In the process, so many more will also benefit.

In the world of medicine, there is only one color for me, and that is PINK.
Pink for breast cancer. Yes, I am a breast cancer survivor!

Over the years, advances in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment have been made possible by significant funding for research and awareness campaigns. With the help of technology, great inroads have been made.

Earlier this year, the WHO (World Health Organization) made the following statistics available about breast cancer in 2020:

• 685 000 people died
• 3 million people were diagnosed with breast cancer
• Breast cancer is the most common cancer worldwide
• Breast cancers occur in men (0.5–1% of patients)

One can only wonder what the figures will be for 2022.

Breast cancer can be treated in three different ways:

1. With surgery whereby the lump or tumor is removed
2. Radiation therapy which lessens the chance of recurrence in the breast and its surrounding tissues
3. With chemotherapy and other treatments that kill the actual cancer cells or stop the growth

The latter is the most unpleasant experience due to the fact that it not only kills the bad cells but also the good cells in your body. Chemotherapy can lead to fatigue, weakness, nerve loss, nausea, an upset stomach, and what we call chemobrain (not remembering).

These side effects normally occur for +/- seven days after treatment, and treatment happens every four weeks (cycle) for a period of three to six months.
The most common way in which to receive chemotherapy is via IV(intravenous), whereby the treatment goes directly into a vein.

*Treatment, cycles, and side effects differ from patient to patient.

Lastly, my shout-out to my son, who is a surgeon, and the world of the internet for keeping me up to date on what is happening in the world of breast cancer.

The technological news that impacted me the most in 2023 goes to the breakthrough in the early discovery of breast cancer and the new treatment thereof.

🎀 Liquid Biopsies

Breakthrough:

Instead of examining tissue, liquid biopsies examine your blood for early indicators of breast cancer.

What this means for the future:

Since tissue removal is no longer necessary, screening and insight are safer and easier for patients to get. It will also make it easier for doctors to see changes and adjust treatment accordingly.

🎀 Precision Medicine

Breakthrough:

This innovative method tailors treatment according to the unique genetic and molecular traits of each patient.

What this means for the future:

Treatments tailored to the genetics of your cancer can only improve your prognosis with fewer uncertainties, difficulties, and adverse consequences.

🎀 Immunotherapy

Breakthrough:

Newly developed drugs make it possible for the natural defense cells in your body to identify cancer cells and intensify their attack on them. It's similar to asking for help when the body is unable to successfully fight cancer on its own

What this means for the future:

Immunotherapy can defeat malignancies that are thought to be difficult to treat. You now have a strong internal defense mechanism to go after stray cancer cells.

🎀 AI

Breakthrough:

AII algorithms now analyze genetic information, clinical records, and medical images from mammograms and MRI scans more accurately.

What this means for the future:

These advancements represent a paradigm shift in the treatment of breast cancer, ultimately providing patients with more treatment options and more promising outcomes.

Let me end with what I expect the year 2024 will be like in terms of technological advances and news.
