Today, with Easter Monday, the short spring festival is already coming to an end. We have laid an Easter Egg for each of the four days - did you notice them all?

Yesterday I told you that I am in the Eifel. More precisely, in the Volcanic Eifel. It's not called that for nothing; the whole region consists of dormant but still active volcanoes. Since we've spent several holidays here, we're well aware of that, but more in an academic, off-the-wall way. When I arrived here on Friday, there was a documentary on regional TV talking about increased seismic activity being measured in the last few months: you could say it's bubbling below us!

Generally, I am not the fearful type, but right now a few thoughts and emotions are fighting... The statistics about the activity cycles of the local volcanoes allow the conclusion that the one or other eruption could be imminent. We are no longer immune to natural disasters even here in Central Europe, so... Something could happen. I have literally no idea of the consequences to be expected. What would such a volcano do here? Personally, I can hardly stand uncertainty. But there is also the other voice whispering: How cool would it be to experience something so powerful live?!

How would you feel about that, about forces of nature at all?

Heute, mit dem Ostermontag, geht das kurze Frühlings-Fest schon wieder dem Ende entgegen. Wir haben für jeden der vier Tage ein Osterei gelegt – Ihr habt sie alle wahrgenommen?

Natürlich habt Ihr recht: einer geht noch! Aber dazu komme ich gleich ;-))

Ich hoffe, Ihr habt die Feiertage fröhlich und friedlich, in Familie oder mit guten Freunden verbracht. Laßt auch diesen Tag angenehm ausklingen: ich wünsche einen wunderbaren Start in die Woche!

Gestern erzählte ich Euch schon, daß ich mich in der Eifel aufhalte. Genauer, in der Vulkaneifel. Die heißt nun nicht ohne Grund so; die ganze Region besteht aus untätigen, aber durchaus noch aktiven Vulkanen. Seit wir hier mehrere Urlaube verbracht haben, ist uns das durchaus bewußt, aber mehr auf eine akademische, abwegige Art. Als ich am Freitag hier ankam, lief gerade eine Dokumentation im Regionalfernsehen, in der die Rede davon war, daß in den letzten Monaten vermehrte seismische Aktivitäten gemessen wurden: man könnte sagen, es brodelt unter uns!

Generell bin ich nicht so der ängstliche Typ, aber gerade streiten sich ein paar Gedanken und Emotionen… Die Statistiken über die Aktivitätszyklen der hiesigen Vulkane lassen die Schlußfolgerung zu, daß der eine oder andere Ausbruch bevorstehen könnte. Vor Naturkatastrophen sind wir auch hier in Mitteleuropa nicht mehr gefeit, also… Es könnte etwas passieren. Von den zu erwartenden Konsequenzen habe ich buchstäblich keine Ahnung. Was würde so ein Vulkan hier ausrichten? Unsicherheit kann ich persönlich nur schlecht ertragen. Da ist aber auch die andere Stimme, die da flüstert: Wie cool wäre das denn, so etwas Gewaltiges live zu erleben?!

Wie ginge es Euch damit, überhaupt mit Naturgewalten?
