The real story is one of great tragedy, like all good stories.
The word Dracula is s corruption of Draculesti name.
There were 2 great families in Wallachia:
One was Danesti, the other was Draculesti.
They killed each other like York and Lancaster did in the War of the Roses.
One of these Draculesti was Vlad the Impaler ( Vlad III ).

According to Wikipedia, Vlad III ( Vlad Tepes) was the second son of Vlad Dracul, who became the ruler of Wallachia in 1436.

He liked to kill people very much.
The novel is inspired by his lust for blood.
He was with no fear whatsoever.
He hated Germans, maybe because he was born in a
German burg in Transylvania.

He rulled Wallachia, in the south.
He really liked to go back north, in Transylvania, and kill some Germans, from time to time. He also liked to kill Turks, Greeks, Bulgarians nd Wallachians, of course.

He was helped by the Hungarian king, because he was very good at killing the enemies of Hungary.

In the end the Sultan himself, the dude who conquered Byzantium, invaded Wallachia. The Impaler took refuge in Hungary.
In a period of 5 years he killed more than 100.000 people.
The king put him in prison to chill down a bit.
After a while he was released and great honors was bestoved onto him.

He married a noble woman, a countess.
Two strong and healthy sons soon followed.
At 45 years old he mounted an invasion of Wallachia.
He took the throne, but in 2 months he was dead.
We do not know how, He was on the road.
His body dissapeared, Like a vampire.

According to a Turkish chronicler Vlad’s head was sent to Ottoman occupied. Therefore these two pieces of information:

  • That Vlad was decapitated
  • That his head was sent to The Ottoman Empire

The most popular narrative on Vlad Dracula’s death involves a situation where he and his Moldovan bodyguards (who were given to him for his protection by Stefan Cel Mare) were overrun by Turkish soldiers lead by pretender-prince Basarab Laiota in the Winter of 1476 shortly after Vlad’s final return as Prince of Wallachia.

His bodyguards were then slaughtered and Vlad Tepes himself was decapitated before his body was cut into multiple pieces and his head was sent to Constantinople. The bit about his body being ( cut into multiple pieces ) came about later and is likely not true. We do know for sure that Vlad and his Moldovan bodyguards were dead before January 10th, 1477 as Stefan Cel Mare issued a formal letter describing the tragic events on this date.

Dracula's Castle:
Bran Castle ( Dracula's Castle ) situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Brasov is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73.

Commonly known as ( Dracula's Castle ) it is often erroneously referred to as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad the Impaler, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
