My California - Mt. Waterman
For this weeks Show Us Your California contest by @socalsteemit I'm going deep into the San Gabriel mountains to climb...
Mt. Waterman!!
Mt. Waterman is an 8,030' summit in the middle of the San Gabriel high country. In the winter it's northern slopes are used by the Mt. Waterman ski resort. But in the summer it's a great place to go do some hiking!
Hiking through the ski resort
A small lake on Mt. Waterman that was originally created to hold water to use for making snow, but to this day no snow making equipment has ever been installed on the mountain
We started this hike at the trailhead near the Buckhorn camp and hiked up the dirt road through the ski resort. We continued passed all the ski lifts and up to the summit. On the top we hung out for awhile and played around on all the cool rock formations up there. Luckily we got up there early enough to enjoy the views because the clouds were continuing to build around us and had completely engulfed the peak shortly after we began our descent.

On our way down we took the main Mt. Waterman trail instead of the dirt road and made it a into a real nice loop! On our way down we enjoyed watching the clouds swirl through the mountains and trees as if they had come alive. I love it when the clouds are moving like that. All in all it was a fun hike on a beautiful day, what more could I ask for!!

So, until the next adventure...

Beautiful pictures, @derekrichardson. And I love your description of the clouds!
Thanks @jayna! At first I thought the clouds were blocking the scenery... but then as I was enjoying watching them I realized they WERE the scenery!

Looks like a great spot for a hike! I bet that's kind of fun to be able to cruise through a spot that during other parts of the year is covered with snow for skiing. Those rocks are super cool. Mother Nature is truly a talented architect!
Ya, hiking through the ski area makes you feel like your cheating. lol. Like you're seeing something you're not supposed to. But it really is a beautiful area year round.
Simply awesome ..messmirising..👌

It looks a bit dry. Is this area subject to wild fires? I'm really worried about what is to become of our world as the climate crisis continues unabated. At this point, I"m not even sure of safe places to live, since every place on the globe is already being changed in major ways.

Worry less my friend. We will be fine. Todays technology makes most of the possible changes easily adaptable. The worst thing about climate change is the fear that it gives people. Fear never leads to good things.
Yes, we have the technology, but we are not using it. We can easily reach a tipping point of no return. In fact, for the most part we already have. The question now is whether we will make it even worse or actually take appropriate steps to stem the problems. Current data shows that things are even worse than predicted. So no, I don't see a reason to worry less. I see every reason to worry more. Hopefully we can get Trump out of office and at least get the US on the right track, but the US alone will not stop this.
