Raw Water: Are These Guys Sociopaths or Just Greedy Jerks?

in #health7 years ago

You Know About Raw Food, but WTH is Raw Water?

Look, I'm as much of a proponent of eating food that gets processed as little as possible. By as little as possible, I would have to consider some processing necessary to ensure safety and good taste. Apparently, these guys in San Francisco believed that Americans could benefit from something called "Raw Water."

Enjoy Your Parasites!

If you look up a definition for raw water, you find that it describes water in its natural state. That means it still has all of its minerals and ions. It also means it contains bacteria, parasites, and these days, probably little bits of plastic. Enjoy your hydration.

Is Raw Water Just Plain Evil?

Alright, so not only is this raw water sold without processing, it's also really expensive. Look at the cost:

  • You can pay about $37 for your first 2-1/2 gallons, and then about $15 to refill the jug.
  • That raw water has a 300-percent premium over other bottled water that's actually been filtered.
  • Of course, you could spend much less to just drink for your municipal water supply.

If You Won't Listen to Me, What About the CDC?

The CDC has an entire warning page about the dangers of drinking untreated and unfiltered water. (https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/drinking/public/water_diseases.html) On the other hand, the United States can be proud of one of the world's safest networks of community water supplies.

Is Raw Water the New Cigarettes?

You know, there were actually people (even doctors) who discussed health benefits of cigarettes at one time in the United States. Even when cigarette companies knew their products were addictive and dangerous, they did their best to mask the evidence. Personally, I like the taste of mineral water and believe it may have some health benefits; however, I'm certainly not going to buy anything that I don't believe has been filtered and treated.

Some Dirt on the People Behind Raw Water

Do you remember the Jucaro? It was supposed to work with these exclusive bags to juice fruit for people who are convinced that juicing is the road to health. Anyway, inspectors found that they enjoyed the same results when they squeezed the bags within their hands as when they placed them inside of the machine and turned it on. Right, the same guy who was making millions by peddling very expensive squeezing machines is behind Raw Water.

Explain to Me Why Raw Water Isn't Just Sick

There are poor people in this country who don't have access to clean drinking and bathing water. That's a tragedy. Meanwhile, a bunch of upwardly mobile entrepreneurs thought that selling Raw Water would be a great idea. What a world. Is this some weird conspiracy to undermine the U.S> utility system or just nuts?

I'd love to discuss this. Please leave your comments, and I will almost always get around to voting and replying if they are relevant.

Sort:

I had not heard of this, but somehow it doesn't surprise me. It's the next logical step of the "nature cult" cracked out on conspiracy fear. There's always going to be somebody out there ready to scoop up those dollars.

The funny thing (one of many) about this is that no one involved seems to realize that the definition of "raw" is uncooked. That being the case, I've been drinking raw water my whole life.

Yes, to me the manufacturers of these products AND claims must be the most cynical, greedy people. It sort of makes you question everything we're sold and told.

I only recently found out that allergies are caused by avoiding the foods at a young age, this is due to the way our microbiome responds to our diet. Personally, I don't believe there is anything wrong with this raw water - assuming of course, that it isn't fucking seawater, radioactive, or filled with manmade contaminents.

Chances are though this conman is filling up bottles with hard tapwater and making a fat profit.

Well, that what they caught Coca Cola doing with their Disani brand. I mean, I understand buying bottled water in case there's going to be a storm or if you're out. Otherwise, tap water is probably just as good.

As for allergies, I wonder why peanut allergies seem so common these days. I don't remember people having them when I was a kid. And yeah, that was awhile ago, but doctors knew about allergies back then too.

that's crazy lol "raw water"

Yah I don't know why this is becoming a thing. The stupidity is mind boggling and I think they think the treated water is a conspiracy. Probably watching too much Alex Jones

Really, they're selling some people don't need and that can even make them sick. Anybody who says that they benefited from drinking raw water was probably just dehydrated before.

Hahah I love that. Dehydrated lmao

Yes, I find it really disturbing.

I believe for some people it is not so bad to drink raw water. If you immune system is strong enough, I think it won't hurt you buth the problem is modern technology. It's making our immune system lazy and so will most people get sick if they first start drinking raw water. I like to see it as allergies. 2 generations before us, people with allergies where an exception. Since people started to desinfectie there houses, filtering there water and boiled everything before eating it, allergies started popping up in our generation and among our children.

Look, before communities started treating drinking water, lots of people got sick from it. Cholera, typhoid, and dysentery were commonly contracted by the tough sort of pioneers that you imagine. There is some merit in not letting yourself be in too sterilized an environment, but I wouldn't want to drink raw water anymore than I'd eat raw eggs. People have been -- at least -- boiling water for a long time. They've also used different methods to filter it.

Besides, these guys are charging hundreds of times the cost of regular, safe, tap water to bottle this, and it's in awful taste in an age when there are Americans who don't have access to clean water that isn't by choice.

Ofcourse not all is black or white. I am also not a big fan of drinking water from the first creek or river I pass by. There are more save méthodes to do this I believe. I personally don't have a problem with drinking small amounts of water from a small waterfall or something and I eat raw eggs regularly by the way (only from my own chickens). I never got sick from it and I have a great immune system. Buth again, I would never try water that has been standing still in some creek.
The guys who sell that water, in my eyes they are criminals. They are taking advantage of just another hype that can be dangerous if some foul thinks he can earn as much as them selling water from some dirty creek to people who don't know any better.

I feel bad for the Americans that don't have access to clean water. Here in Belgium everyone has acces to clean water and we all just take it for granted.

Well, we took it for granted too for awhile. Then we heard about Flint, Michigan. Puerto Rico has problems that were made worse by the hurricane. Let's say that many Americans can take it for granted, but they all can't.
