Making my ORIGINAL RECIPE of Immune-Boosting FIRE CIDER 🔥🌶️

in #health2 years ago

Hey you! Steemit people!

How's everything? We're already in fall season but it doesn't feel like it is! In the day is really warm and nice outside. Still no need to fire up the chimney haha! I love autumns like this! Even if winter feels far far away, we're preparing for it! And I'm gonna show you how! ❤️

In this post I want to share with you my original recipe of Fire Cider, which is amazing if you're looking up on how to boost your immunity! Actually, this great invention 😊 called FIRE CIDER is well known of being an ALL-CURE product!!

Ok, but let's not go any further without asking what is actually Fire Cider? ❓

Well, it is a herbal concoction made of Apple Cider Vinegar + some steeping Food ingredients.

It was first made back in 1980 in the kitchen at the California School of Herbal Studies. The intention of the teacher named Rosemary Gladstar who created it was to show her students how to make herbal preparations that were as much food as they were medicines, so she was constantly experimenting and concocting all manner of medicinal herbs into a variety of recipes. The idea was to bring medicinal herbalism back into people’s kitchens, as part of their food and as a way of being, not just for medicinal purposes.  [source here]

The original recipe is made of apple cider vinegar, horseredish, ginger, garlic, onion and cayenne pepper. Plus honey, almost forgot.

All other added ingredients are optional. There are so many variations of ingredients (herbs, roots, and peels). Some people add ginseng or echinacea. Others add rosemary, lemon, oranges or turmeric. It's up to you and your preferances or your medicinal needs. See down below what I add into my recipe.

The most acclaimed property of fire cider is being a tonic which boost your immune system and helps you fight against cold and flu. It is believe to be one of the most effective natural remedy when it comes to streghten your immunity.

“It’s an incredibly powerful botanical. It has antibacterial potential; it’s great for things like the bacteria that cause things like acute sinusitis.” -  Dorene Petersen, president of the American College of Healthcare Sciences in Portland, Oregon

Petersen ticks off the other ingredients’ impressive qualities: garlic is an antioxidant and can help regulate blood pressure, turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and ginger has warming abilities, helps relieve nausea, lowers cholesterol and wards off cold and coughs; Cayenne aids in digestion and revs up metabolism, onion is also an antibacterial and helps fight yeast infections, ACV can help to stabilize blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol. The sum of these parts is hard to beat.

“It’s a mild tranquilizer and it’s an anti-inflammatory, so it’s really very powerful,” Petersen says.

[source here]

Even though there aren't scientific studies about the fire cider itself, if you look closely to the ingredients separately, many of them have been folk medicine for thousands of years. Cause there is evidence supporting the healing power of garlic, ginger, curcuma, capsaicin (found in spicy red peppers), onion, horseredish. Also, some of these food ingredients are considered natural antibiotics.

But this is why it works:

  • Ginger – reduces nausea, eases digestion and fights colds and chills
  • Horseradish – antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, sinus-clearing, cough
  • Onion – colds, bronchitis, antihistamine, high in Vitamin C
  • Garlic – immunity, cardiovascular health, antibacterial
  • Jalapeno pepper – sinusitis, combats infection,  breaks up mucus
  • Turmeric – antioxidant, anti-inflammatory

To this website you can read more about the  Science of Fire Cider’s Ingredients.

On the other hand, Fire Cider is very nutritious.

Produced from fresh, raw, and healthful ingredients, you better believe Fire Cider is nothing short of nutritious! Apple cider vinegar itself offers potassium, manganese, calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorous; and when you add the other ingredients, Fire Cider is chock-full with all the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. you can hope and imagine for. The branded Fire Cider is also certified organic, if you are into that sort of thing.  [source here]

What I love the most about this product is all the raw and real foods it contains. It is preservatives free, it contains probiotics, and it's versatile and you can use your imagination to create many different tastes.

So, this is my Original Recipe of Fire Cider! I really encourage you to make your own and start drinking this amaing healthy drink!

(for a 3-liters Jar)

  • 3 cups grated horseradish
  • 3 cups grated ginger
  • 2 cups onion (small pieces)
  • 1 cup minced garlic (maybe its room for more)
  • 3 hot red peppers (slices)
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup mustard seeds
  • 4 Tbsp turmeric powder OR turmeric root
  • 1 bunch of dried thyme
  • 10 peppercorns
  • 10-15 cardamom pods
  • 2-3 Tbsp cumin seeds
  • 5 star anise
  • apple cider vinegar (unfiltred, unpasteurised) about 2 liters, maybe more?
  • honey

This is max one hour work!

1. First, sterilise a large jar of 3 liters. Or you can use smaller sizes for the jar, doesn't matter. I personally like to use a larger size because I always end up sharing it with family and friends. Plus I find it easier to have one big jar than 2 smaller.

2. You need to prepare the ingredients. (grated ginger and horseradish, small pieces of onion, minced garlic, slices of red peppers).  Rest of ingredients are already dried so it's not a big deal.

3. Put everything in the jar. Add the vinegar until all is ingredients are fully covered. This is the most important part!!! In order to prevent spoilage,  be sure all the ingredients are covered !!!

4. Put the lid on and shake it until all ingredients are combined. Storage it in a cool & dark place.

5. I like to shake it every few days. After about one month, strain out the mixture of solids and pour the liquid in a clean jar. Add honey (I dont know about you, but I added 4-5 Tbsp) and storage the whole thing in the fridge or in a dark cool cabinet.

Take a tablespoon or two of fire cider whenever you feel the first onset of cold and flu symptoms.

These measurements are orientative. In the last 2 years (since I've started making fire cider) I've seen many recipes which are different and still, the same; if you know what I mean. For example, it's not a problem if you have only 1 cup of ginger and not 1 + 1/4.  Or it's not a problem either if you skip adding cinnamon. It's up to you. Do a little research, see other recipes and make yourself an idea on how you'd like it.

This sounds awesome. Funny, while I read this, I thought the idea was to drink it as a shake, like a whole glass of it. Then, near the end, I found out that you only take a spoon or two when your resistance is low, haha! Which makes me wonder, why not take a spoon a day to keep the doctor away ;>)

Um abraco and thanks for sharing. I am probably gonna give this a try one day soon. Not sure if I have the patience to wait a month before I try it though. How important is that?

Hey @vincentnijman! Oghhh the idea of a shake sounds really...bad tasting!! so powerful I bet I wouldnt drink it.

Now that I'm readind your comment I realise I didnt insist much on writting to many references on how to take it or when because I focused mainly to recommend it as a preventive natural remedy in order to boost our immune system. But YOU ARE SOO RIGHT!! This medicine is to take it daily because it has all the amazing ingredients which are so powerful and make so good to our well-being. It's a health habit in my health routine and it's on top of the list when it comes to good health habits to make.
And yes, I hear you with the waiting. It sucks and I hate it too! I don't know, maybe you can start drinking the thing right away but for sure the health benefits wont be the same. Because it takes time for the food ingredients to release their powerful compounds in the liquid. STEEPING it's a process and depending on the used ingredients, the timing can differ.

Thank you for your support and I really hope you make it cause it's one of the best natural medicines ever!
P.S. Read @riverflows's coment to this post! She really said it all!

Great post @missdeli! That looks like one killer immune booster. Going in my off grid recipies for resilience. My friend @riverflows sent me your way.

Thank you very much @makinstuff! Nice to meet you hehe! And YES, it is really one killer immune booster and I think is one of the best natural medicine ever! Why? Because all those ingredients in one shot, like I already said. It's really powerful! Hopefully you'll make it soon! It's very easy to make it, no stress at all! Cheers from Romania!

Sometimes I take a shot of apple cider vinegar diluted in a glass of water... but this is taking it to a whole new level! Looks awesome and I bet it’s full of flavor. Might have to try this some day :)

hey hey! That's great too!!! but you are so right! This is something else and it's really a good one when it comes to natural medicines/remedies + a good habit to your health routine. I believe in US are already brands that make and sell this thing. So you can make a little research and buy it to try it out. And if you like the thing (because it has a really strong taste) you can make your own. If you have all the ingredients, in one hour you're done. Sincerely, this fire cider is somehting that I really really believe in as being a natural remedy for our immune system (which is huge for maintaining our health) so I would be sooo haaaappy knowing you'll start making your own and take it. Sorry for this long novel but I had to say it out loud! haha

hahaha I always enjoy your long novels @missdeli! I will keep my eye out and look for them next time I am at a Whole Foods market, if not, I will make it myself. Do you eat/drink all of the ingredients or do you strain the cider and drink the juice ...?

After about one month, strain out the mixture of solids and pour the liquid in a clean jar. Add honey (I dont know about you, but I added 4-5 Tbsp) and storage the whole thing in the fridge or in a dark cool cabinet.
Hihi, thats me. I cant do it other way! this is exactly how am I in real life too. YES, you do that!
Here's also a link to this thing on Amazon
I cant imagine eating this thing! I would be on fire the very first second!!! it's really hot and spicy! Or maybe not sooo hot (depending on how many chillies you put in) but the taste is STRONG enough! So, yes, I strain it, add honey and then drink it. one or 2 tbsp. Sometimes I diluate it with water, sometimes I dont. :D

Nice, so if I make it now, I will have a batch ready for November when it starts getting really cold outside. I’m sure it’s a warming drink. Thanks for all the feedback :) maybe I will order the fire cider on amazon, but I bet it’s even better when you make it yourself!

Posted using Partiko iOS

Well you know right. making it home its best but in case you dont have time this can be a solution too!
And no problem, I enjoy the chating...until the time's out! It's 12 am here, baby's gonna wake up soon to eat and I'm already tired. I bet I get myself to bed and by the time I fall asleep he'll be all smiling. So, better stay awake until then. :D Yes, it is a warming drink. Interesting flavour though...unique! it seems like beer when combined with water, maybee....I think so.

OoOo that’s late!
Goodnight and sweet dreams @missdeli!
Always nice talking to you too

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yes and no! It's late but this is my usual hour to go to sleep so I'm fine. I need to get myself out of the couch, then up on the stairs and then to bed. It seems such a long way. :))) So I'm staying at the couch a little more, gather my energy to go upstairs. :p what time is to you? AND how was your trip to Europe? I FORGOT!!! Where are my photos? I wrote you to take some, did you? :)

It sounds like an amazing solution for deglazing the wok after making a batch of stir fry. I love all the ingredients in it, and want to try it just for the taste, whether or not it's an immune booster. It's medicinal benefits are just gravy =)

Hey there! No matter the reason you make it, you better put all the ingredients together and make it! and actually, since I've read, a lot of people make this fire cider as a condiment!
Cheers from Romania @valued-customer!

Beautiful pictures of all your ingredients! I made fire cider last year using our own apple cider vinegar. My helper friend made his this weekend, so I best get hopping and get mine made.

Excellent post!

Thank you @goldenoakfarm! Hopefully next year we can make our own as well! I bet yours is divine! Really healthy cause its homemade. Do you make differently the fire cider? :)

This looks wonderful, can't wait to try making some!

Thank you!! If you do, please come back here and write me a reply, I'm curious if you like it. :d

This is a wonderful example of a post that really provides value. I love the pictures, which iPhone did you use to take them with?

Ohhh thank you soooo much @evernoticethat! I used my Samsung Galaxy 8+

I have a gallon mason jar with my homemade fire cider aging away. Only bad part was prepping the fresh horseradish- that stuff is powerful.

Posted using Partiko Android

Thats so niceeeeee!!What's your recipe? My eyes were crying out while I was peeling that stuff hahahaha

When @riverflows talked about her fire cider 4 months ago I was like

Why am I not making this?

Now you talk about it and share these awesome photos and speak more about the benefits and I’m like

Why haven’t I done this?

Okay I have to make plans to give this a try at least some time this month in time for Winter. Thanks for sharing how to make yours and the medicinal properties of each component. Awesome post! I can’t imagine our home without ACV!
