As Intermittent Fasting,

is quick becoming a staple in the health world, more and more benefits are found each day... even to ward off Alzheimers Disease.

Intermittent Fasting, , is great for our bodies and especially weight control, but it also changes our very being.

It actually maintains control of your weight, increases athletic performance and even helps protect the muscles from breakdown. It also has increased mental capacity and overall brain functionality.

Let's take it back to the beginning, intermittent fasting cause stresses and adaptability needs within the body, right down to the cellular level. Most likely derived from a more primitive human stasis where meals were not on a regulated time table, nor did we have food readily available depending on location, climate, our hunting or gathering it... as well as many other factors.

And while chronic (or continuous) stress actually breaks down the body as well as our brain, a healthy bodily response to stress is vital for survival in all animals, including us humans. Responding to stresses allows us to continuously adapt and change to our environment. As our bodies cannot maintain a relaxed state during a stressful event, as the brain sends signals to the rest of our body, to get ready to fight or flee the danger.

Mechanics

Intermittent Fasting also increases what is known as the Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF). This is responsible for growth and maintenance of sympathetic and sensory neurons. BDNF is one of the many neurotrophins we have in our brain that help stimulate and manage the process of neurogenesis, but BDNF is regarded as being one of the most active and universally important. So by maintaining satisfactory levels of the BDNF, we gain and retain optimal neurotransmission and as well as preventing a myriad of potential physical and mental diseases.

Fight Alzheimers

As one example, Alzheimers is a disease that destroys the Hypocampus, this is the part of our brain that helps us ascertain what we are doing, where and when we are, basically our current place in life. Intermittent Fasting will aidin the removal of waste or toxins from the neurons as well as reduce the plaque buildup that is one of the causes of this disease. These are called Amyloid plaque, which are sticky buildups that accumulate outside nerve cells, or neurons.

Depression

Yes Intermittent Fasting also aides in releasing depression as it works to flush the toxins from the neurons.

How do we increase our BDNF

  1. Intermittent Fasting (Caloric Restriction)
  2. Exercise (Frequency and Intensity)
  3. Dietary Modifications (Reduce Sugars and Saturated Fats)
  4. Sunlight (Get Outside for Vitamin D)
  5. Supplements (Curcumin, Green Tea, Omega 3 Fatty Acids)
  6. Social Enrichment (Not Online, Actual People)
  7. Lose weight (Using all of the above methods)
  8. Certain Drugs (Last Resort)

So Nuke Them Neurons Now, no time like the present.

Good post, how long do you recommend such fasting? drinking water first thing in the morning is also good isnt it? Following you for more good posts

Thank you,
Start easy, just skip breakfast... then work up to a longer period, between 14 and 36 hours. Maybe do it once or twice a week, but not too much. Women should be slightly shorter in duration.

Great... resteemed your post in order to have it on my page and for my followers to see and learn...lets be in contact, thanks for sharing

Thank you...make sure you read the other article hyperlinked in this post too.

Great, thanks for sharing

Yes drinking water and non caloric drinks is OK... water in the morning is vital. One of the ideas is to not cause an insulin rise... anytime you eat this happens.

I just added a post that covers all your questions @charles1: https://steemit.com/health/@kyusho/the-how

I've started with this a few days a week. Last meal 7pm, and only water (with lemon usually) until midday the following day. Seems to be going ok but I am freaking starving those mornings!

Hang in there, everything worthwhile has a price.

Very true. Been hearing good things about fasting boosting metabolism, so let's see!

I use it and it works well for me... but I do not go stupid with it.

Good stuff, do you exercise regularly and eat well too?

I could never go stupid with not eating food!

Yes I am a professional Martial Artist and Health worker for 40+ years....can proudly say I have not missed a day yet exercising.

Oh wow! Very impressive, you are one to listen to on the subject of health. I need to do my research 😁

No just an addiction... that ain't good either, but better than the addiction to slothdom.

Ι started experimenteing with intermittent Fasting last week applying the 16:8 rule and I did see results but it was very hard for me to keep. I'll test it again only with a more gradual introduction.

This process is a long term one... weight loss does not just happen, nor do long ingrained other health aspects. Start slow and easy.... and remember Women should not do this as long in duration periods as men.

Οk I will follow your advice, slow and easy...

Good luck... you can do it!

Haha thanks!

Great informative post

Thank you.
