Research Shows That Tennis Might Be The Best Sport To Help Extend Your Life

Various health experts have long maintained that an important part of pursuing a healthy lifestyle is incorporating regular active exercise into the daily schedule.

Research shows that a sedentary lifestyle is detrimental in a number of ways.

Staying active is known to promote a wide range of positive health benefits, including overall longevity.

But which exercise or sport activity etc might be the better than the others? Studies indicate that tennis might be the best bet, the best sport activity to engage in if you want to extend your life. In all honesty though, any activity is regularly recommended to be better than none at all.

In one study that specifically looked at tennis, scientists looked at thousands of people who had previously been involved in the Copenhagen City Heart Study for several years, giving researchers vast amounts of followup data for participants over a long enough period of time, giving them enough time to possibly better determine how participation in various sports might affect life expectancy.

Researchers discovered that tennis players lived the longest among the activities that they analyzed which includes other sports like swimming, soccer, badminton, jogging, and cycling.

Despite the outcome though, the study was only observational and researchers say that they still haven't yet determined a cause-and-effect relationship. However, they do assert that the social aspect of playing these sports is likely a valuable contributor to that longevity.

Overall, they found that tennis players had roughly an extended life expectancy of about 9.7 years, followed by 6.2 for badminton, 4.7 for soccer, 3.7 for cycling, and 3.4 for swimming.

In another recent study, researchers have added more to the suspicion here that social connectedness is an important ingredient in the longevity mix, when they discovered that tennis is likely the best team exercise of any sport that can possibly help to promote a longer life span.

Scientists found that engaging in sports that involve multi-player involvement that it could be more beneficial than individual exercise like going to the gym.

Why Might This Be?

Researchers have pointed to a number of activities that might have the possibility to help extend your life span, aside from just tennis, including daily exposure to greenery, fasting, or even simple walking. For those who might have spent many years doing otherwise, it's never too late to change things and go in another direction; researchers maintain that a little effort can go a long way to help to undue the damage that's been inflicted by that previous couch potato lifestyle.

Interesting thought. It's more than just the physical activity. I would personally think tennis would be hard on the joints, shows you how little I know. Cool perspective

Pfft, I'd say you should compare that with dancing. Dancing is one of the best ways to keep your mental and psychical health in top shape.

Perfect.
I love jogging, tennis and badminton.

Good info. I know NO of tennis.
