Hello Steemitsonians, today, I continue on this Prostate Care Diet for Today blog looking at food and diets that can significantly help improve, prostate health. Like I have always said, this is not for men only, it is also for women who want to do more to help their spouses have their prostate situation under control. I have been reading quite a bit on this, particularly the book "Healthy Eating: The Prostate Care Cookbook" and my findings will be posted on this blog.

The prostate is that part of every man that needs proper monitoring to prevent the development of prostate cancer. The lower the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) level in the blood, the better for the health of the prostate. Although there isn't a specific normal or abnormal level of PSA in the blood, but most doctors have in the past considered PSA levels of 4.0 ng/mL and lower as being normal. Proper care is needed to maintain these levels.

Diet for Today : Stir-Fried Pork Fillet

Stir-Fried Pork Fillet

Ingredients for four people

For the Vegetable Stir-fry

  • 2.5 cm piece fresh root ginger, grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of rapeseed oil
  • 1 red chili, deseeded and chopped.
  • 1 thinly sliced red onion
  • 1 head of broccoli, broken into small florets
  • 1 sliced pak choi
  • 1 bunch of spring onions chopped into pieces
  • salt
  • 320 grams of bean sprouts
  • 1 each of yellow, green and red pepper sliced into thin strips
For the Pork and Marinade
  • 1 pork fillet, cut into cubes
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, plus extra to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Combine all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and add the pork chops. Place the bowl in the fridge to marinade for 3 hours. Ideally, you can leave it overnight for the ingredients to diffuse into the pork chops.

Step 2

Now, drain the meat from the marinade. You can pour into a sieve or pat dry with kitchen towels.

Step 3

Heat up the oil in a large wok. Once the oil is just smoking, stir-fry the ginger, garlic and chili for 15 - 20 seconds before adding the pork chops. Stir-fry the pork until lightly browned, then add the broccoli, and red onions and stir-fry for another minute.

Step 4

Now, add the remaining vegetables and continue to stir-fry for another 5 minutes.

Step 5

Add the drained marinade from the pork and add a little soy sauce to taste. Then cook for another 2 minutes. Season with salt as needed and serve with boiled rice or pasta.

Benefits

This meal is a great source of allium vegetables (onions, garlic and spring onions) and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli and pak choi). Allium vetegables have been known to suppress the activation of cancer-causing compounds and increase the activity of enzymes that detoxify cancer-causing compounds.
Cruciferous vegetables contain compounds known as glucosinolates, which are beneficial to the body. Research has shown a strong association between the consumption of cruciferous vegetables and reductions in prostate cancer risk.
