Detox Elixir: Turmeric and Ginger Tea

in #health7 years ago

Whenever I feel a little bloated or lethargic I brew up a batch of turmeric and ginger tea. In my experience, this tea gives me energy and makes me feel amazing. Turmeric and ginger are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, they fight infections and also aid in digestion. But all that really matters to me is the powerful vitality I feel when I drink it.

The way that I make the tea is to grate fresh turmeric and ginger on a ginger grater. I put the grated turmeric and ginger into a mug and pour hot water over it and let it steep for five minutes. How much of each ingredient should you use? That is up to you. I like my tea very strong and so I use about a teaspoon of each per cup of tea. I would recommend that you start with a quarter teaspoon of each. I like to eat the turmeric and ginger too. That is why I use a grater and I do not strain the tea. You can also make the tea by slicing the ingredients instead of grating them. And if you can not find fresh turmeric then use dried. Just remember that dried turmeric is much stronger then fresh. So, start with a small pinch.

Thank you for reading my post today. I wish you great health and happiness. I look forward to engaging with you in the comments section below.

I always drink tea with ginger and turmeric when I feel a little sick. I have similar recipe here: https://steemit.com/healthyfood/@monika-homa/2-christmas-recipe-warming-ginger-tea

Your tea looks delicious and I really like your photos on your tea post.

I've been taking ginger and tumeric capsules every morning since my stop in Chiang Mai Thailand about 3 months ago. But I'm sure the fresh tea better and more healing in direct way. Funny how I follow and have befriended both of you and the three of us have so much in common. Like Ginger and tumeric! lol So good to all meet on your lovely post Steve. You are doing great. Keep up the good work! -Dan

I read in my research for the post that capsules are actually better because they get more of the curcumin compound that is found in turmeric into your body. It would be hard to get the full medicinal benefits by just eating the spices. But, I find that drinking the tea is delicious and that combination of spices gives me energy. Thanks for your comment Dan!

Thanks for the recommendation! I should try it. My husband already does the turmeric part and you can tell from all the yellow-orange markings around the kitchen (yikes!).

My fingers are still stained from the turmeric! and also my ginger grater. I love that tea. I can drink it all day.

I am not one who drinks hot drinks but today is a day where I feel a drink like this would be good for me

I have ginger and turmeric so I will try this shortly

It is a great pick me up. I go for this kind of herbal tea when I'm done drinking coffee and green tea for the day.

Well I just drink water for the most part these days

Best medicine. We always add some lime too ;)

Excellent booster Steve :-) . My daily green tea is with a lot of ginger. Mint. Cinamom and Corriender but never added turmeric to it. Let me try this out. Regards Nainaz.

Your tea sounds like it has a warming sensation with the spices that you add. I would like to try that one.

Thanks for your comment!

One of my favourites!! xo

I find this tea to be so uplifting. Thanks for you comment.

What a healthy drink! I like to drink ginger tea too, but before I liked to buy it in packets ready to made the tea. Your post made me change my mind, I think making it with fresh ginger will be much better, love this recipe.;-)

Thanks Maya, The fresh ginger tea is spicier then the packets. I sometimes make it with galangal instead of ginger! That is more medicinal in taste. Let me know how your tea turns out.

This great post has been included in 📌'Notes'📓- Issue #13!

Do stop in and
show your family some love :)

Thank you kindly. I will check out what everyone has posted.

I've never seen a real tumeric root. That's some great orange color! I like ginger. It's hard to have too much. I hope you are back in full form soon -- especially with that invigorating tea!

The color of turmeric root is amazing and it is amazing how it can stain everything that it touches. And it can stain everything that you touch after touching it! Curcumin is the compound in turmeric that causes that color and that compound is what contains the medicinal properties. I love ginger too. And there are times that I crave ginger so much and I consume massive amounts of it. I make a simple sauce with minced ginger. It is roughly one cup of ginger minced. And to that I add a few spoons of fish sauce and lime juice and about 1/2 cup of oil. The oil tempers the spiciness of the ginger and I can eat loads of this sauce over steamed rice when I am craving it. Thanks for your comment.
