Side Effects of Smoking - Every Smoker Ignores but Can't Escape

in #health6 years ago

Smoking is undoubtedly one of the deadliest habits known to men. Smoking is also one of the preventable reasons for death and illness around the world. Smoking seems all time high now and people who have successfully quit smoking are negligible as nicotine withdrawal is quite tough process. Almost 4.9 million people worldwide die every year because of diseases caused by smoking cigarettes. Smoking side effects are catastrophic to the smoker’s health. People who are addicted to smoking endanger not only their own lives but the lives but also the people who are around them. People who are addicted to smoking faces lots of difficulties to quit smoking. Smoking can be linked with several frightful diseases. Some of the many side effects of smoking tobacco are discussed below in brief:

Smokers have high risk of getting heart attack and stroke. The reason for this is the carbon monoxide in the fume of burning tobacco. This smoke hardens the arteries and eventually causes various heart problems such as blood clots in the brain or better known as stroke. Also the nicotine in the tobacco makes the arteries of arms and legs to tighten. This also increases the risk of damaged arteries surrounding the heart and blood clots.

Cigarette smoking also causes lung diseases. There are 400 types of toxins and 43 known cancer-causing compounds and 4,000 chemicals in the fumes of burning tobacco. All these harmful chemicals cause considerable damage to the cilia. these cilia protect the lungs from waste matter like dirt etc. when the cilia are damages it loses its working capability and overtime the lung becomes clotted with dirt which lead to lung problems.

Chronic bronchitis is among the side effects of smoking. Chronic bronchitis is characterized by difficulty in breathing and excessive coughing. Emphysema is another terrible side effect of smoking. Emphysema is a long-term lung disease. As a first sign of emphysema the patient is found short of breath during exerting activities such as sports or exercise. but as time passes these signs became more and more evident and the patient start to feel out of breath even when he is at rest and eventually the patient shows more serious symptoms like excess wheezing, mucus production, uncontrollable coughing and blue tint in the eyes.

After seeing these terrible side effects any smoker with a sane mind would want to quit smoking. But it is certainly not easy to quit smoking. As their body crave for more and more nicotine. One of the modern ways of quit smoking is electronic cigarette. Electronic cigarettes or vaporize cigarettes are battery-powered device that can provide doses of non-nicotine vaporized solution for inhaling. This vapor provides a physical sensation and flavor similar to tobacco smoke so the smokers can get the feeling of smoking without actually smoking any tobacco. So to escape from the dangerous effects of smoking electronic cigarettes can play a vital role. Anti smoking campaign should also be made stronger to avoid any more losses of lives due to cigarette smoking.

I wish people just stop smoking. I would be in heaven!

It's very dangerous for health

It's Not Whether You Get Knocked Down, It's Whether You Get Up

SMOKING besides the bad side also has a good side.
Quoted from Live Science (in jurnas.com).

  • smoking lowers the risk of joint damage. because nicotine in tobacco helps prevent cartilage from joint damage.
  • Smoking lowers the risk of Parkinson's disease (nerve damage).
  • Smoking Reduces Obesity Risk. Nicotine in tobacco smoke is an appetite suppressant.
  • Smoking helps the heart of drug clopidogrel work better. Clopidogrel is a drug used to inhibit blood clotting for patients suffering from coronary artery disease, and other circulatory diseases that lead to stroke and heart attack. Smoking can help Clopidogrel do a better job. Smoking at least 10 cigarettes a day, will activate a specific protein called cytochrome, which converts more active clopidogrel.

There are two ways of quitting that I have seen that work:

  • With every urge, drink water.
  • With every urge eat a carrot stick.

I know of a few people who can personally attest that those replacements work. Besides, they're cheap and plentiful replacements with zero side effects.

Smoking is one of the most irrational responses to stress I have ever seen. At least with cannabis the user gets high. But with smoking, there not really much of a high, just the slow and steady onset of physiological dependence.

Exercise, yoga, meditation and just eating right, can all reduce stress. There are also many support groups that can help alleviate the stress of modern life, and even help to quit smoking.

Emotional support is also important in quitting smoking. So if you want to quit, don't try to do it alone. Get a phone buddy, someone you can call when you have the urge to light up. When that urge comes, use the phone, call someone you trust and let them know. This interrupts the thought process that is a precursor to lighting up. Then you can think through the stink (of smoking).

Right..i'm deal...

Nicotine is a short term drug. If it were not, then someone addicted to smoking can never get 6 to 8 hours of sleep without waking up in between to get his fix. The addiction to smoking is in the habit which a quitter finds hard to do away with. Habit such as lighting a cigarette, dragging from the stick, exhaling, blowing smoke rings at times, tapping the ash in the ashtray, waving hand with the cigarette in between the fingers. Take it from someone who gave up smoking 30 years running. Here's a link to a post 3 months ago on how I stopped here. This can help you get started with your Day 1 in quitting the habit.

Great and very relevant post @bodzila. Upvoted and resteemed.

Great post and information! I think everybody who smokes should read this article! I have actually tried to convince some people around me to stop smoking in the perspective of saving money for retirement and the money we wasted buying cigarettes.

Check out my post

ENJOY!

I quit smoking and it is one of the best thing I have ever done in my life...

Odio el humo del cigarrillo, mi nariz es alérgica a él.
