RE: Side Effects of Smoking - Every Smoker Ignores but Can't Escape

in #health6 years ago

There are two ways of quitting that I have seen that work:

  • With every urge, drink water.
  • With every urge eat a carrot stick.

I know of a few people who can personally attest that those replacements work. Besides, they're cheap and plentiful replacements with zero side effects.

Smoking is one of the most irrational responses to stress I have ever seen. At least with cannabis the user gets high. But with smoking, there not really much of a high, just the slow and steady onset of physiological dependence.

Exercise, yoga, meditation and just eating right, can all reduce stress. There are also many support groups that can help alleviate the stress of modern life, and even help to quit smoking.

Emotional support is also important in quitting smoking. So if you want to quit, don't try to do it alone. Get a phone buddy, someone you can call when you have the urge to light up. When that urge comes, use the phone, call someone you trust and let them know. This interrupts the thought process that is a precursor to lighting up. Then you can think through the stink (of smoking).
