Let's Talk Money: Would you give up Smoking for a more secured financial future?

I have come across someone who constantly talking about the lack of money and all that, so that there is just absolutely no way for him to even save up a $100/month. So I asked, how many pack does he smoke a day, he said 1/2 a pack to 1 pack. I was extremely surprised that the amount of hard-earned money wasted daily on something that would deteriorate your health everyday. So with that in mind, I have built myself a spreadsheet to prove my point...

Over the years and price of a pack of Cigarettes has raise dramatically from $0.25 per pack to around $6.20 per pack, around 4.8% increase per year. So here are my assumption on my calculations:

• Smoker smokes 1/2 pack per day.
• Price per pack: $6.20
• Current Age: 30
• Retirement Age: 65
• Rate of Return on Investment: 4%/yr (4% per year is extremely low return on the investment as you may tell. I am not even using anything like a 10% per year, which is the historical return on stock market)
• Inflation Rate on cigarettes: 2%/yr (assuming tax will not be increase as dramatically than the past... simply picked a number here...)
  Result: $112,500 saved at retirement age of 65.

If getting healthier is not a convinced reason to quit smoking, then maybe saving more for retirement might do the trick... Remember, I have not even taken into consideration all the money that you have to saved from having a healthier body!
