Welcome to the 31th edition of the Mizu No Oto contest, haiku friends!

Like the previous edition in Spanish, this time too we will double the Best Haiku (therefore there will be two winners), to celebrate the goal, reached and passed, of 30 editions of the contest.

I will not dwell much on it. As I wrote yesterday in the awarding post, my commitments became heavy until the end of June. Therefore, there will be no in-depth article at the bottom of this post.

All the attention, therefore, will be for the photo and for your haiku.

I highly recommend you to write your haiku in the comment, as well as put the link, so the other participants can read and vote all the haikus without having to open twenty sheets.

Good haiku to everybody!

Best haiku award (2 times): n. 3 steembasicincome shares each

Popular choice award (if at least 5 votes): n. 1 steembasicincome share

Best vote comment (if at least 5 votes): n. 1 steembasicincome share

For those that want to unleash their poetic potential, here is how this contest works:

• Look at the prompt image and let yourself be inspired by it.

• Write a haiku related to the prompt image. The haiku should be composed by 1-3 short verses with no title. The classical haiku form is 3 verses of 5/7/5 syllables, but other forms are allowed, as long as they remain in absolute brevity.

The haiku should be in English or include an English translation.

• Post the haiku on your blog or in the comment section below this post. If you make your own post, don’t forget to put the link to it in the comment section below!

Don't forget to use the tag:

Do you want to know how we evaluate the submitted haiku? These are the characteristics we search for (but not mandatorily):

• Kireji (切れ字), a cut between the 1st and the 2nd verses, or between the 2nd and the 3rd; the cut can be grammatical, as a sign of punctuation, or it can be a cut in the meaning, like two different images.

• Kigo (季語), an explicit or implicit reference to a season, that defines the time of the year in which the haiku is composed or referred to.

• Sabi (寂), the sense of the inexorable passage of time, the beauty or serenity that accompanies the advance of age, when the life of the objects and its impermanence are highlighted by patina and wear or by any visible repairs.

• Wabi (侘寂), the taste for frugal and natural things, rustic simplicity, freshness or silence; it can be applied to both natural and artificial objects, or even non-ostentatious elegance.

• Mono no aware (物の哀れ), empathy with nature and human life; the "feeling of things", nostalgia, regret for the passing of time, understanding of the changeability and of the transience without suffering.

• Yūgen (幽玄), sense of wonder and mystery; it represents the state of mind produced by the inexplicable fascination of things, the feeling of an 'other' universe, full of mysterious unity.

• Karumi (軽み), beauty in simplicity; poetic beauty reflected in its simplicity, free from preconceptions and moral judgment.

• Shiori (しおり), gentleness; the levity and the delicate charm that radiates from the verses, where things are evoked in the reader without aggressiveness or excessive explicitness.

Submission deadline: Wednesday 22nd May, 10:00 PM, GMT +1 (Rome Time).

The results will be out on Thursday 23rd May, 10:00 PM, GMT +1 (Rome Time).

Church on the shoreline
Grey sky and dull sea linger
A bell marks the hour

First one that points put the church. And does it in a great way. Loved the time reference there with the bell. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Nice meaning kireji. You put movement and sound to my still photo

You haiku reflects the existential conflict that overwhelms the character, it is felt in all its depth. @raj808

Vote your favorite haiku down here:

There are so many good haikus, but I'm gonna vote for three of them before more awesome works appear making it harder to choose: @wakeupkitty, @salvao and @irvinc. Those are the three I liked the most.

Thanks 😁💕

@aurodivys, @josemalavem and @salvao are my choice.

This week's image aroused many sensations in the poets, and most of them felt oppressed by the hopelessness and sadness that occurs when the weather conditions are adverse. It is a good exercise to delve into one's perceptions. I couldn't read them all, but here are a few poems. He sings of lovelessness in his poetry. @isauris; freezes our soul with its atmosphere of restlessness @mllg; struggling with grief @felixgarcia; searches in its thoughts and meditates on lost love @josemalavem; opening paths through darkness how it should be! @josegilberto, doubt, very valid appreciation in that suggestive image.@irvinc; marine solitude is a fundamental element that surrounds the image. Cristiancaicedo; you let time pass in circles and that gives a new effect to photography @lecumberre; positive and romantic love @gracielaacevedo; I like more the vision of your first haiku, it is more original and artistic @wakeupkitty, you surround the scene with a feeling of oppression that generates uncertainty. My final vote is for @josemalavem in the midst of oppression knew how to find the open way. There is always a way out! I liked the broad vision of this haiku. I apologize because this is not my original language and I depend on a translator in this case I thank DEEPL.

Your translated did a great job!

solemn clouds

- muted storm

Wow! I'm reading all the haiku in order of posting age, and I'm growing more and more moved. How can I choose?
Yours is a little masterpiece among little masterpieces... that's what I was thinking about, when I wrote about every single word being essential in a haiku.

Very nice haiku! Love this one.

Hi! ❤

My entry:

Autumn clouds,
lonely and cold wait.
A calm sea.

Hermoso, @isauris.

Lovely entry! I like the way everything seems more positive if you think about calmness, and no more loneliness and cold

Fantastic picture @marcoriccardi
I leave here a thought, framed in the form of a haiku. I do it in the spirit of participation (I've been busy!):

Alone and Weary.
Thoughts travel on memory
Where are they going?

The pic inspires melancholy, but it's a bittersweet mood you transmitted very well. I like the fact there's no answer...the supended question is what I feel more in your haiku

Thank you!

Edge-of-town mood flows
Along with heavy Spring clouds
Over me they wash

Not sure if your haiku arrived on time... anyway, it's quite a complex one, there's a good sense of mono no aware and sabi

My entry:

the lonely dock,
the wait became endless
under the lantern

as always an inspiring photograph @bananafish

I liked this one that mentions the lantern. Thanks for sharing.

is the beauty of the haikus, the details seen and not highlighted are charming @cristiancaicedo

Hi! My friend @sacra97.
A pleasure to read you.
You got a nice hiaku

thank you very kind words I love the haikus @mllg mi maria luisa

Very good, melancholic, haiku. It struck me a lot!

grateful for the words of support, they are always very kind, since I discovered the haikus I love a very special expression @bananafish

Dear friends of @bananafish and participants in this contest, I leave here the link of my post and then the transcribed exercise. Thank you and good luck!

Foggy time
and sea in stillness
Open road

I like the translation on your link better:
foggy weather
and sea in stillness
open road

That is perfect. You create a tension between the calm of the sea and the nebulous quality of the environment. The open road cuts through it, a clear path. It's a satisfying balance.

Moment of waiting,
meditating in the wind.

More beautiful in Spanish but lovely in both languages.

Me gusta.

Happy new haiku week! :) I´ll be reading others entries...

La gris espera
ha llegado a tu orilla.
Amores mustios.

The gray waits
has come to your shore.
Mouse loves.

Saludos. Acá dejo mi entrada.

Callado invierno.
Pena en mi pensar.
Soledad marina.

Quiet winter.
Pity in my thinking.
Marine solitude.

Este quedó genial. Sencillo, pero sobrio. Felicidades.

Hermoso.

Excelente día para todos.

Quietud marina

el cielo cargado fluye.

Pensándote voy.

Marine calm

the charged sky flows.

Thinking, I'm going.

Me dije ¿"voy"?

Saludos.

Sweet wait with patience
in the shadow of the sea,
her elusive love.

Hello @bananafish my entry: https://steemit.com/haikucontest/@felixgarciap/sweet-wait-haiku-contest-week-31-english

Haiku lovers: This week @marcoriccadi proposed a photograph of the complex dedicated to the sweet Madonna dell'Angelo, on the Adriatic coast. The devotion that is offered to the Virgin is similar to that offered on the Caribbean coast; so, I felt very alluded to the image.
Therefore, in my post for the contest, I did four exercises. I leave the link, if you want to review them: https://steemit.com/haikucontest/@gracielaacevedo/mizu-no-oto-every-image-has-its-haiku-contest-week-31
Here, I leave you two of those haikus, making the reservation that the last one, in the red letters, is the one that competes.

Full of art and flowers,

the church on the rock waits,
Man thinks, he doubts.

Llena de arte y flores,

la iglesia en la roca espera,
El hombre piensa, duda.

In mystic airs

the man imagines.
Behind him, the sea.

En místicos aires

el hombre imagina.
Atrás de él, el mar.

Here's my entry for this week's contest:

It's autumn again
loneliness runs to the end,
with so much patience.

Here's the link to it.
Greetings and thanks for this contest. Good luck everyone.

Saludos.

Es así, una huida paciente. Gracias por leerlo y por comentar. Saludos.

Saludos, queridos amigos de @bananafish. Dejo por acá mi entrada al concurso:

Under the grey sky
my sadness is tucked in.
¡False promise!

Bajo el cielo gris
se arropa mi tristeza.
¡Falsa promesa!

Grey clouds overhead
Cold winter's day by the sea
Alone, he sits and chats

I also wrote a post, but it seems to be having weird formatting issues on Partiko.

A good description in macro, of the panorama that the photograph shows.
Good captcha, @nmdougal94

Thank you, I'm glad I achieved what I was trying for. I'm enjoying this poetic exercise, it's been a very long time since I wrote poetry of any kind.
