In this program, we not only change our habits and learn new techniques but we change our beliefs about our abilities.

Today, I will show you how to store information in locations you are all familiar with.

I am glad Jim is continuing with the memorizing and storing techniques, I really need these techniques to become a better speaker and a better teacher. Yesterday Jim showed how we can create and store memory items in his office and I guess today we will learn how to store memory items in any place we choose.

Today is April 30th, and it is the twenty-second day of my 30-day "Superbrain" program by Jim Kwik.

In the previous 21 days, Jim taught different techniques to memorize things, shared exercises, hacks and lifestyle tips that improve brainpower, gave various effective ways to memorize names and vivid and memorable mental images, Jim also gave a great method learn foreign languages and words and yesterday Jim explained and demonstrated how to store different things to remember in his office as mental images.

If you want to check out the summaries and learn the tips and techniques of the previous 21 days check out these posts - Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7,Day 8Day 9Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, Day 13, Day 14, Day 15, Day 16, Day 17, Day 18, Day 19, Day 20, Day 21.

The location method

As we have seen in previous lessons, we can store different memory items in different places. It can be our body that we used to store brain foods ( you can check out the brain foods on Day 5) and yesterday we used Jim's office to store the 10 hacks unlock the brain potential (that you can check out on Day 21).

Creating places and locations to store different memory items is an ancient technique that pre-dates writing. In those days people had no ways to write things down and had to use their memory, this led to the location storing method in which you use a reference point a familiar place on which you place a memorable and vivid mental image of the thing you want to remember.

We will now store my morning routine that helps to jump-start the brain inside a place you are all familiar with, your house, said Jim and gave his morning routine :

  1. Recall your dreams.
  2. Make your bed.
  3. Drink water.
  4. Exercise.
  5. Deep breathing practice.
  6. Cold shower.
  7. Brushing teeth with the weak hand.
  8. Brainpower smoothie.
  9. Journal writing.
  10. Learning something new ( reading).

After sharing the list, Jim asked to cose our eyes and start visualizing.

Now, please close your eyes and imagine you are walking into your house. Go into the room closest to the entry and as you are standing in the doorway to that room please choose 5 locations or items, choose the from left to right and visualize them as vividly and detailed as possible, SaidJim.

The room closest to the entrance of my apartment is the kitchen, and I visualized 5 location in my kitchen:

  1. kitchen table
  2. trash can
  3. multi-cooker
  4. sink
  5. Fridge

Go into another room and choose 5 locations more Jim asked again.

I mentally went into my living room and choose 5 locations:

  1. tv
  2. sofa
  3. coffee table
  4. cat furniture
  5. window
After choosing 10 locations, Jim asked to create a diagram on a piece of paper with the locations as squares with numbers and names.

Now, we will put each of my morning routine steps within the locations we choose with exaggeration, emotion, and action, this will make the image much more memorable, said Jim.

I started to visualize myself walking from location to location and creating mental images -
On the kitchen table, I created a pillow to sleep on. I put the bed in the trash can. Water was gushing out like a geyser from the multi-cooker. In the sink, I put a little trainer doing squats. Inside the Fridge was a yogi sitting and doing breathing exercises.
I moved from the kitchen to the living room and I saw cold, freezing water flowing out of the tv. A maid was brushing the sofa with a toothbrush. All the ingredients of the brain smoothie were lying on the table. My cat was writing a journal on his furniture and there was a giant book on my window.

When Jim asked to recall the steps in his morning routine I simplyimagined myself in the kitchen and in the living room and I was calling out each step without a moment of hesitation.
This method can be used to store many different memories and makes the access to the simple and fast, the trick is to create memorable and unique images that are easay to recall.

For Homework Jim asked to choose 10 oter locations inside our home and I just visualized locations and items inside my bathroom and bedroom.

Conclusion of Day 22

Today I really felt that I learned a method that is going to be very useful. Storing memories inside my home in different locations is genius and I understand why this ancient method is very successful.
After 22 days I can see great results in all the aspects of my brain - memory, focus, concentration, problem solvig and almost any task seems easier to me.

I wonder how far will my abilities evolve in the next 8 days.

See you tomorrow on Day 23.
