A Superpower In 30 Days - Day 17 Effective visualization
The brain can't tell the difference between something you vividly imagine and something that is real
Today I want to teach you 2 brain hacks that will help you to visualize better
I always found visualization a powerful tool, it has helped me to cure psoriasis and solve many different issues regarding my well being.
I will gladly learn how to improve my visualization skills I said to myself in excitement.
Today is April 25nd, and it is the fourteenth day of my 30-day "Superbrain" program by Jim Kwik.
In the previous 16 days, Jim taught different techniques to memorize things, shared exercises, hacks and lifestyle tips that improve brainpower and gave various effective ways to memorize names.
If you want to check out the summaries and learn the tips and techniques of the previous 16 days check out these posts - Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7,Day 8Day 9Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, Day 13, Day 14, Day 15, Day 16.
T.I.P
Visualization is a powerful aid to memory, various visualization techniques Jim gave in the previous lessons make name memorizing easy and simple. A good ability to visualize is priceless, but what can we do if we have a hard time to visualize?
Here Jim offers the T.I.P - _Turning Into Picture, as an example Jim asked to close my eyes and imagine a lemon as vividly as possible, to cut a piece from it, smell it and feel the piece in my hand, and He asked to put it into my mouth. At that moment I did the face as if I had something sour in my mouth and my mouth filled with saliva.
Studies have shown that the same areas in the brain light up when you see something and when you vividly visualize that same thing.
To practice visualization just place an object in front of you, it can be a picture or something else with many interesting details, close your eyes, and try to re-create the object in your mind with as much detail as you can. Repeat this a couple of times adding more and more details each time. This practice will massively improve your visualization abilities and with that, your brain will become even more Super.
Vowels method
When visualizing, we need to create special and memorable images so they will be etched in our memory. The more unique and unusual the image the easier time we have remebering it.
To create effective images that will help us memorize important things Jim created the Vowles method.
Simply put, we the vowel letters in the alphabet, A.E.I.O.U create an acronym (Jim likes acronyms) that helps us to create the most memorable image :
(For examples I will be using a story from Chain Linking Method lesson that you can find on this link)
A - Action, imagine some sort of action in the image you created to visualize, in one of the previous lessons we imagined balloons that tear out a fire hydrant splashing water all over. An image like that is hard to forget.
E - Emotion, when creating an image add emotion, it can be something funny, sad or disgusting as long as you feel it. In the same story there was a diamond the fell on the head of Sir Lancelot, in that image emotion of laughter or of compassion was present making it very easy to remember.
I - Illogical, when creating an image create an absurd and irrational image that will be easy to remember. In the story flying batteries popped the balloons in the sky. That doesn't make sense and that makes all the more memorable.
O - Outstanding, a memorable image has to be different and exaggerated.
U - Unique, the image you create has to be special and one of kind, so that it will be east to refer to it that particular thing you want to remember.
To practice The vowel method just use it every time you try to memorize something, create an image that uses A.E.I.O.U every time.
Conclusion of day 17
I tried the T.I.P method on a picture on my screen and with every time I closed my eyes, the image became more vivid. There was a noticable improvement in my visualization skills and I think daily practice will improve them even more.
Jim's visualization hacks are very simple and effective as all the techniques and tips he gave in his program so far.
17 days in, only now I realize how well planned and effective Jim's program is. I can easily recall things that I had trouble with like shopping lists and people's names. Moreover, my focus and concentration levels have never been so high.
Doing this program was an awesome idea.
See you tomorrow on Day 18.
