Guilty Pleasures || Writing Prompt Contest By A Guy who @blewitt

in #guiltypleasures5 years ago (edited)

Thanks to an unexpected free night, because of everyone in the house going to bed early, I get to stay up and do whatever the hell I want.

I didn't think I'd manage to do this "fun" post before the contest ends, but after reading some of the other "Guilty Pleasure" posts, with a slight mix of fomo, and a free hour or so, here I am.

I know I really should be using this time to work and study, especially with all the new channel stuff to work on, but my super sm-rt compromise is having this video play on loop in the background, while I type away. Adult-ing right Oh yea...

So... Guilty Pleasures...

I have to say, like a few others who've joined in, I don't tend to feel guilty for my pleasures. But I can think of a few that I'd rather not admit to, so here goes! I was originally enticed by @coruscate's entry to do this as a video, but it's too late in the day for that, so writing (and taking ages longer) it is!

Girly/Romantic TV shows/films

I'm pretty into TV shows, I've seen most of the good ones: Breaking Bad, Freaks and Geeks, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones. Lots of other decent but not great ones like Suits, Lost, Sons of Anarchy, True Blood, Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, and lots more.

Thing is I'm not a girly girl, so I don't like to admit that I sometimes fall for the girly shit.

For a time, I was obsessed with Gilmore Girls (to be fair, this show is quite a bit above the standard of trashy girly shit). I binged the whole season, and caught up just in time before the latest "reunion" releases. And after I finished all of it, a few months later, I randomly wanted to watch a specific episode. I did, but it didn't feel right, so I started again from the first episode, and then ended up binging the whole TV series the next few months. So yea, I'm not touching that shit again, I learnt my lesson.

Another Drama I was obsessed with was The Good Wife, thankfully when I was looking to binge this a second time, Netflix no longer had the show. Phew

Also the funny thing is, thanks to Netflix, I now find Torrenting too much effort, so I wouldn't even bother downloading the whole series.

Being a fan of the audio visual experience. I am also really into movies. Some of my forever favourites include A Clockwork Orange, Baraka, Pulp Fiction, Requiem for a Dream.. Stuff that usually gets me a lot of street cred with the movie buffs, budding director types. So you can imagine, I find it very hard to admit that I enjoy the occasional girly movie. I really like (love) "Life as a House", "Love, Rosie" and "Me Before You". I have come to accept that this is ok :P

Oh boy

Leftovers for breakfast

I am a massive massive fan of leftovers. I will happily mix and match random leftovers and stir fry it all up or make a fried rice for breakfast (being partially filipino, I am not scared of "dinner type foods" for breakfast) or even for a late night snack, like tonight :)

As I type this, I'm having this gorgeous pak choy + leek fried rice (from lunch earlier) stir fried with a red pepper + green beans + potato stir fry (from 2 days ago), past midnight, and I'm loving it!!

Most of my family know this, especially my mom. Whenever she visits, she usually comes with a few containers of random leftovers (they are big foodies and always have leftovers) and it makes me happy. Thanks Mom <3

Music

I am usually more into rock/metal, because it's some of the best music out there. I'm pretty against Pop, mindless Pop definitely. But of course, I was a young girl once, and before I found Rock, I had to explore a bit musically.

Spice Girls was the shit when I was 11ish, a great easily influenced age... So yes, I sometimes will burst into song "I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want. So tell me what you want, what you really really want." Thankfully this only happens at home, so it's not quite something anyone could have any sort of proof of. I sometimes also do it just to amuse the kids. I like to be fun at home, you see :)

Oh god... I can't believe I'm admitting this on the blockchain

Another song that I very occasionally burst out singing is "I'm sitting down here, but hey you can't see me. Kind of invisible, you don't know my name." - No clue who sang this btw, I always have to look it up to check, but for some very odd reason, I sing this a lot.

Chocolate

I am actually not a big fan of chocolate at all. I'm not a big fan of desserts in general. I almost always prefer savoury foods. BUT for whatever reason, I effing love Kinder Buenos... God knows why. They're so sweet.

I'm not crazily obsessed or anything though. It's not something I buy regularly at all. Usually I only need it maybe once a month. And when I do have it, it makes me happy.

Funny Selfies

I don't have issues taking selfies with people. I don't have many selfies of just myself, but I'll take a decent one if needed. What I do love is taking funny face selfies, especially utilizing my double chin. I pride myself in taking some really funny ones I have to say.

This one, I took with the girls, still makes me laugh...

Trolling little kids

I have the absolute pleasure of being around lots of kids the ages of 2-5, my youngest and many of her friends. An age where they still say certain words funny or are still learning to use the right word in the right context.
On a very regular basis, I get to pretend that I misheard something they say, especially when they ask for something.
"Mommy, can I have a coin?"
"Can you have oil?"
"No.. a coin"
"Oh... a comb?"
"No mommy.. coin!"
"Ohhhh....... corn..."
"................ mommmmmmy!"

Yes it's silly but lots of fun for me, my "cruel" way of claiming parent tax.

There are some kids who are just great to wind up, they will happily (or unhappily) continue to engage me and let me go on and on for ages. I like to think that I am teaching them an important life skill here. Just maybe, one day, they will learn that they can just walk away ;)

That's it from me, I've spent more time on this than I planned to, so typical!

Thanks for reading, even if you didn't really ;)

There's still time to join in the contest, check the deets here!

And @Blewitt, I hope you're happy now that there aren't just 13 people lingering around the platform. There are definitely at least 14 now :)

Also I was thinking of donating some steem for your contest, but I also know I'll definitely win it back. So I saved you the trouble and cancelled it out myself. You're welcome <3

Much Love from Red

YEEESSS you joined the challenge! I think it's pretty awesome that we both admitted how much we love girly tv shows - and both made disclaimers about how Gilmore Girl is a total cut above the rest. hahaha Too bad we don't live closer to each other. We could have a total trashy tv marathon. And eat loads of chocolate... and take silly selfies.

YES and glad I did :) I really didn't want to miss out on the fun!

Gilmore Girls is totally on another level in the "girly" category, the comedy is on point sometimes. I always justified binging the show by saying that I learn a lot about human behaviour, human and relationship psychology from watching it. Is it a bit of a stretch?? I don't care haha :P

Honestly, judging by the posts of quite a few of the others who did their guilty pleasures post, there's definitely a Gilmore Girls PJ party of some sort waiting to happen... #sogirly hahaha might as well embrace it right?

Your cockiness just knocked you down a peg. Buuuut fucking with lil’ booger eaters brings you up one. So you are back to even ground with the other 13. Be thankful.

Also, have you seen Six Feet Under or The Wire???

I hardly call that cockiness, I'm just self aware ;)

And Six Feet Under, yes! Funny I was going to add that show in my post, and then decided I've listed too many as it is. I haven't touched The Wire, but I'm pretty sure I'll like it. Will start it when I have a few months I don't mind sacrificing! Was watching Prison Break for a while, haven't finished it but kind of lost interest at Season 4.

Never started Prison break. I am a total TV snob and there aren't many network shows I watch. Mostly cable or streaming services. I hate unrealistic situations and dialogue and with the limitations that network TV places on shows, I find myself picking shit apart. Cable has more reign and seems more realistic to me.

Nah it's cool....you can be full of yourself....someone has to root for you in life....even if it's you...

So I'm guessing Cable means live TV? We don't have that at home anymore. We only have Netflix or Amazon Prime. Personally I never cared when Prison Break came out, even though everyone was buzzing about it at the time. But since it was on Netflix, I thought why not! Prison Break ended up being cool, but mostly in the beginning. I don't think I'll ever bother finishing it.

Also you seem like a snob with most things in life.. frankly I can't even remember why I started associating myself with you. But it's Christmas, so it's a time for good deeds I guess?

Sorry...Basically here you have your regular network stations. That is like what you can get basically without subscribing to a package. If your want the premium channels, those packages cost more obviously. Those are ones like HBO and SHOWTIME. That was more of what I meant. Sorry...I need to remember this is a worldwide crowd here. I am dumb.

I am a total tv snob. I think because you are attracted to the finer things in life....you were drawn to me. Just sayin...

Finer things in life?? Another typo I presume?

<3

You crack me up. Seriously, I don't think I've seen you and not laughed. Also, leftovers for breakfast is yummy. Actually, I'm so hungry, leftovers sounds pretty good right now. ;)

Hahaha then I guess I've carried myself well :P

I'm glad someone else appreciates leftovers for breakfast :) I just woke up and I'm still full from that after midnight leftovers fried rice I had a few hrs ago hahha! So essentially it was half midnight snack half breakfast, I might have just invented a new thing ;)

Lots of people laugh when they see her.

Laughing is great for the soul, so if people laugh when they see me, then essentially I am great for their soul.

Sounds like a win win to me ;)

I love the Good Wife!! Alicia is so cool. And I didn't realise you're part filipino, thought you were from HK?

Alicia is sooo good. It is such a great show, but it took a few months of my life!! I have to be careful with shows like that nowadays haha

And yes I was born and raised in HK, but I'm mixed race.. My mom was born and raised in the Phils, and she's also very mixed herself :)
