Like most of my posts here, I try to deliver education about gold in an entertaining way to make learning fun for readers.

There’s is another search that goes on for gold that is much serious that happen in Mubai, India. Steemian @jasonshick sent this incredible article about that process:

The article is about a group of men in Mumbai that literally scour the streets for the smallest specks of gold, they are called “Ghamelawala.”

Ghamelawala is the name of the pan in which they collect dirt off the streets to attempt to harvest gold from. Gold is SO prevalent in India that the dust from all the craftsman that constantly make gold jewelry is everywhere. When these workers leave the factory even the smallest bits of gold attach to their shoes and even their hair.

These tiny pieces of gold dust in the street and are then collected by the Ghamelawala in their pans and the bits of gold are extracted .

It is an incredible reality that the Ghamelawala can make a living of sorts by taking sludge off the streets and derive gold from it.

This is because India is the largest gold jewelry bullion market and gold is all over the place

There is so much human ingenuity that goes into the process it is really quite impressive!

I see the Ghamelawala as another example of how gold has always been around to help not just the rich but the common man. It’s like gold is always here, through every civilization and throughout history, just waiting for someone to work hard enough to find it so it can save them from their current financial deficit.

The Ghamelawala search a lot harder for gold than I do. Gold helps them feed their families and hopefully improve their quality of live.
