My last post was a playful fairy tale about these cute little shaped fruits that look like Alien babies.

They are actually suppose look like a Chinese lucky Buddhist monk that will bring you good fortune. They are quite common during the right season and cost about 20RMB each.

As @ace108 suggested it really does look like a pear.

The above fruit in the photo I took is called “Fairy fruit” in English or *神仙果 in Manderin Chinese often referred to as “Gods Fruit”.

BUT how did they really do that?

The secret is Fruit Moulds.

Japan became well known for its square watermelons some years ago. It’s the same idea and technology that has led to many shapes since.

As I was researching my post yesterday and more this morning, I discovered that there are many options for shaping many types of fruits. There are also a few companies online that will make customized fruit moulds to suit any occasion and many types of fruits. Even catering to shape large pumpkins. Talk about having the coolest Halloween pumpkin ever.

And finally the biggest one I saw was this pumpkin Frankenstien.

This might make kids want to take part in learning to grow food. Even cucumbers can easily be shaped and the mould is pretty cheap or maybe fashion your own moulds.
