The year is almost over and that means that we are going to take stock again. Below is the list of the best action adventure games of 2017.

5. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

Three years ago we could already work with Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and since this autumn we can also please ourselves with Shadow of War. And this second part continues where the previous part is finished.

The special ring that main character Talion and his companion Celebrimbor had at the end of Shadow or Mordor was meant to create an army of orcs and thus put an end to Sauron, the ultimate enemy. Shadow of War starts with that goal, but in the introduction they lose the ring. You feel it coming; in this game you have to see the ring.

That is the main story. Of course you can also deviate from the path and do all sorts of other activities in the open world, such as conquering forts. And in this, the Nemesiss system, which allows enemies to constantly develop, comes in handy. 4. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

Just as Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor was a reasonably 'silent' hit three years ago, the same also applies to Wolfenstein: The New Order. Coincidentally, that game has a sequel that came out this year: Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus.

It is 1961, Nazi Germany has won the Second World War and is now the boss in the United States. A group of resistance fighters, to which the protagonist BJ Blazkowicz belongs, is by now ready and wants to unleash a revolution. In The New Order, a nice start was made with this and in The New Colossus these efforts have to be expressed. How would that end...

3. Assassin's Creed Origins

After a year without Assassin's Creed, the first time since 2008, we finally got to work again with a new part at the end of October. Where we were skeptical about the limited progress in recent years, Assassin's Creed Origins surprised us very positively.

And that is partly due to the setting. Ancient Egypt with all its pyramids and pharaohs is in fact a great sandbox for getting around. In terms of gameplay, the game also undergoes a slight metamorphosis, because it even starts to become a real RPG with elements such as levels, weapons at higher levels and many quests that are open.

It should be clear that Ubisoft, the company behind the game, has played a loan at The Witcher 3. And secretly we do not mind that at all, because we think Origins is one of the best action adventure games of 2017.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

If we are talking about the best action adventure games of 2017, then this game should not be missed. It was a long wait for a real Zelda game for the Wii U and there it was finally, on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. We even had to wait so long that a whole life cycle passed by. Fortunately that was all worth it!

Thanks to the power of the Switch, Zelda could become bigger than ever. And that is the case in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The world is incredibly big, there is a lot to do and the separate art style has something special. Okay, we have to save Princess Zelda again, but we have never seen a Zelda game like this.

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn came out in March of this year and tells us a special story about a semi-ruined earth.

Yes, the earth is almost destroyed. Nature has won it from mankind. The people now lead a primitive existence in a green world, as if we were thrown back in time ten thousands of years ago.

And you are Aloy, a woman from one of the primitive tribes who are still walking around on the earth. There is only one problem: Aloy and her mentor have been rejected and must prove themselves again to be admitted to their tribe. Perhaps the new mechanical animals are a good prey to attack so that everyone is convinced of your qualities?
