LEGO. It is something that we all love at home. Combine that with another beloved 'you-name-it' franchise. That is the whole concept of the LEGO games, where a second Marvel Super Heroes game has now been released. I started joyfully anticipating LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.

Easy to grab on, hard to LEGO

It was not until quite late that I started playing the LEGO games, despite the fact that several people in my area had already tipped me about it. My cap never stood there. Until I had desperately needed to play a Harry Potter game about six years ago. Everywhere the LEGO game emerged as the best game of Harry Potter, and it was also available everywhere for a few minutes. And really, what a great game it turned out to be! Subsequently I started playing almost all LEGO titles, where they are all piece by piece of fun titles. The formula of these games works especially well. The stories are revealed in a funny way and are interspersed with nice details. It may even be more about the gameplay formula. All kinds of levels with lots of puzzle work and collecting loads of studs and other things is incredibly addictive. There is however one side note: All Lego games are very similar in terms of gameplay.

Hubba Hubba Hubba

Almost every LEGO game has some news here and there, especially noting that Traveler's Tales is getting better and better in perfecting the formula. Yet it is not very noteworthy in general. The first LEGO title that, in my opinion, really brought some innovation into the gameplay, is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. That I was able to speak well about this game can be read in my review. Here you have between the levels through an open free world to be able to run around and fly. There has always been a hub world, but that used to be nothing more than a small area that counts as a glorified selection menu. The first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes tells many original Marvel characters an original story, something that was only the case with the Batman games. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 should therefore comply with all these points at least if the game does not disappoint.

It's a Marvel!

Unfortunately, Marvel Super Heroes 2 does not disappoint at all. It is a 1-up on all fronts compared to its predecessor, especially in quantity. The game is really twice as big with twenty levels and ten bonus levels. The main story is an over the top gigantic epic story (as it belongs to Marvel) which mainly revolves around the time traveling Kang. You have a gigantic and very nice hub-world called Chronopolis, where all kinds of (Marvel) realities and dimensions actually converge into one big world. There are also an incredible number of LEGO characters that you can unlock, namely 236! In addition to the well-known, the most obscure Marvel characters also pass by, from the alternative Spider-Mans to Howard the Duck, and they are still relatively familiar.

Super Burnout

Is there still much to tell about Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2? Not really. It's all very good, but we've seen it all before, namely about 10+ times with all other LEGO games from Traveler's Tales. That is also my only criticism: it is time for a real big change in the LEGO games, because no matter how good they are, they will never continue to work out the same style. For anyone who has played a LEGO game before, I would be able to review this game in one sentence: The same sheet and suit, but bigger and better than ever.

Conclusion

With Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Traveler's Tales has made his magnum opus within the well-known LEGO games formula. Everything is bigger and better than ever before, with a great funny and fascinating original story. But no matter how good the game is, in my opinion it has been really nice with these style games. Better than this is no longer going to be, and I can not imagine that there really are people who have played ALL LEGO games without being tired of it now. That said: Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a must-buy for the LEGO and Marvel enthusiast. And now something else TT Games!

➕ A lot to do and unlock
➕ Great and original storyline
➕ Super Hub Hub world
➕ Marvelous!
➖ LEGO formula is really ready now

I recently started playing the LEGO games on Android (Jurassic World and one of the Star Wars games) and love them. I don't have any modern consoles to play those versions so I am limited to playing on the go (GPD XD is my hand held of choice right now).

What platform did you review it on? Did you experience any glitches or technical issues? I was reading the latest issue of Game Informer, and it cited these as major detriments to the game, to the point where it only got a 6/10, along with the tagline "A marvelous mess". Is it really that bad?
