Megaton Rainfall VR Review - Superman or Goku?

Superhero games are enough. But who would not want to look through the eyes of a superhero to save mankind from an alien invasion? In the first person superhero virtual reality simulator Megaton Rainfall VR you get the chance to be a real hero. How? You can read that in this Megaton Rainfall VR review!

Every boy (or girl) has sometimes dreamed of flying around the earth as Superman or Goku and teaching enemies a lesson. Megaton Rainfall VR knows how to hook into this by perhaps the best Superman or Goku-like experience ever to put down. As an offspring of an almighty box - as we will call it just for convenience - are you immortal, but do you have a mission!

Superman or Goku?

In Megaton Rainfall VR it is up to you to save the earth from an alien invasion, imagine yourself as Superman or Goku and put on that virtual reality headset!

The mysterious box has the power to give you new skills, but for that you have to complete missions first. You do this by following a marker to a city, after which a number of different alien ships appear with a red luminous button. As you might guess, you can hit the red button with an attack (similar to the Big Bang Attack of Vegeta), which will destroy the spatial vessel.

Pay attention, because if you miss the enemy and hit a flat, for example, the building collapses like a card game. Do you know enough enemies in a city to hit without too many casualties? Then the alien ships flee to another city to cause chaos. If you also manage to defeat the boss here, you will receive the Xenospheres on which the enemy is aiming and you will be able to absorb your super powers.

After a number of missions, for example, you receive the 'superluminal speed' which makes it possible to fly to other planets.

Responsibility

Besides flying along different cities and planets, your forces in attacks also increase. For example, you quickly get a sort of Kamehameha attack from Goku that will make enemies faster in ashes and you even get a superbom that can make entire cities disappear. That is obviously not the intention of the game. This is where the Spider-Man statement comes in handy : "with great power, comes great responsibility" .

On the left side of your screen is a meter that is full at the start of a mission. As the enemy demolishes more buildings, the meter drops, but also when you as a "superhero" decide to demolish a building. When the meter is empty, you will be reset to the last checkpoint you have achieved. The fact that you are responsible for the earth and therefore have to be careful during missions brings an earth variety that you will not see in games soon.

Is this reality?

Time to set up the PlayStation VR glasses and move you into the skin of a superhero. The game can also be played without PlayStation VR glasses, but you can better forget that because this greatly reduces the experience. The control is in fact quite simple. With R1 you get up, with L1 you go down and to look around you use the right analog stick and VR movements. Go forward or backward by using the left analog stick. The skills you learn come to stand on the keys.

As a superhero you want to have full control, of course, and so you quickly put on your PlayStation VR glasses, with which you can control the game quite intuitively.

Small but very nice!

Although the game is very strong in virtual reality and delivers great effects and audio, the graphic spectacle is not present. The people on the earth mainly stand still, cars drive, but are not very impressive and the buildings and cities are disappointing. Nevertheless, the game manages to hit you back by, for example, showing the northern lights in the introduction and Dubai. In addition, exploring the universe is also absolutely impressive.

The game was developed by a small team: Game Design, Engine and program developer Alfonse del Cerro Aguilar, music by David Garcia Díaz and a 3D and 2D team of only 5 people, making the expectations for future VR games even greater.

Does it matter that the game is not a garfic picture? No, so far not. In addition, we did not feel for a moment that we were motion sick, despite the fact that the game warns several times to take breaks.

Conclusion

Megaton Rainfall is not a game that will earn a prize for nicest graphics. On the other hand, the game as VR title is able to beat you back and it is currently the best experience you can find to fly around like Goku or Superman. The management is simple, but extremely effective and also the expansion of your skills and the possibility to explore the universe are very entertaining. The small team can be proud of what they have put down with Megatron Rainfall VR.
