Tricky Tower Review - The Creative Tetris!

Everyone knows Tetris. This game has been released on so many platforms that everyone has ever played it. But what if you change the old concept so that it no longer resembles Tetris? You read whether this works in the Tricky Towers review.

Tricky Towers is a game that actually looks like your Tetris are playing. You let Tetriminos fall down, all of which differ from forms. By just dropping them on top of each other, you can stack them nicely on top of each other. All these blocks are made for each other so that if you place them correctly, they fit together perfectly.

Tetris, but different!

But now comes the twist... this time you should not only build a tower of Tetris cubes that is as beautiful as possible. It does not always make sense to put the stones so beautifully that there are no holes in your construction. It is precisely the priority to build a high solid tower. Strong because Tricky Tower challenges you to build such a high Yenga-like tower before it falls over.

This challenge is offered to you in various game modes. This allows you to play the game both single player, multiplayer locally and multiplayer online. While you try to meet as many challenges as possible in the single player experiences, you are primarily working online to be better at building towers than your fellow player. Tricky Tower basically offers fun for a large group of people.

Too little user feedback

Yet Tricky Tower is not perfect, because it is not always clear to start with. For example, little attention is paid to clearly explaining, for example, all those challenges. Because of this you have to guess what exactly is the goal of the single player challenge. That is of course not the intention!

Yes, explanations can be hidden via a button in the main menu. This explanation consists of boring text and what and illustrations. But an average player will not search for explanations at all in the main menu. This problem could easily have been solved by creating a tutorial that is brought in a fun interactive way.

Variation in the game

Once you understand what you have to do, you will be presented with a fun but challenging game. The relevant modes are race, survival and puzzle. In race you try to build a certain finish as quickly as possible, in survival you try to survive by building a tower while you are not allowed to drop blocks and in puzzle you have to stack blocks so that they do not exceed a certain height. This is tough!

On your own you can also try to play the game in an endless fashion. Challenging because all kinds of obstacles are imposed. For example, a doll is waved with a magic wand and suddenly you are attacked by a lot of magic. Blocks that suddenly fall faster, are twice as big, blocks that you can not turn anymore... You can not think of it as crazy or the game will use it against you.

Fortunately, you can also use magic. This way you can free up the possibility to stone blocks or create creepers that stick blocks together more firmly. You get this magic in, for example, survival by reaching a certain height.

Old-fashioned couch co-op

But if you only want to play the game on your own, then you are quickly bored with the game. The real fun is in the social aspect of the game. Together Tricky Tower play is the cutest! The game is actually the best for an old-fashioned couch co-op.

Together with friends you want to play on the couch and finish each other in this game. So you can harass each other with several crazy spells that are also used against you in endless fashion. On the other hand, it is fun here, because nobody is very much ahead of it, so it remains exciting until the end who wins.

No online community

The game must also have this couch co-op, because there is not so much life online. From the various times we have tried to start an online match, it has succeeded zero time to find a fellow player. Apparently there are not enough people online to really play this game together. It's a shame, especially since the game was released on PS4 last year and so there has certainly been time to build a community around the game.

Fortunately, there is the option to still fall back on friends, and to play online with them if you can not sit together side by side on one bank.

Conclusion

Tricky Tower is a very creative variation on the game Tetris. Nevertheless, the game does not feel completely. Only the fun is quickly finished. There is enough potential in this game to entertain you for a few hours only, the real fun will only come to the moment you play the couch co-op. This is really a game where your friends have to drive to the limit.
