If you're someone who looks at a 6.5 above Knack 2's review and calls, "Yes, yes, enough, you can not!" Then you forget an important thing: you're probably not the target audience of this game.

It is a game for children who can get to know games in an accessible way. If they are a little younger, they can do that through co-op with a parent, brother or sister, and otherwise they will end up on their own. And in that regard, Knack 2 does what it should do. It's going well and the colorful graphics will be in taste. If you start here as a hardcore gamer, you actually know what to expect.

Having said that being a children's game does not mean that it can only be done everywhere. That target also deserves a good game, and Knack 2 leaves several points. Just to start the bad news: Like his predecessor, Knack 2 is quite monotonous. Each level bursts from the platform sections that resemble each other, alternating with some simple slapping and kicking.

Put out your Knack

The leaping is somewhat more varied than in the original. You need to switch between big and small Knack regularly to jump under low ceilings or just over high obstacles. But after a few hours, it starts to notice that most springs are reused a number of times, and then it's also the standard elements you see in many of these games. Rotating surfaces, reciprocating platforms, spies and small ridges, it is known cost.

There is still only one way to get through a level, and it is usually quite clear. Slim change between big and small Knack could provide interesting puzzles, but if you see a space that does not fit big Knack, it's always obvious what you need to do.

The combat has also been tackled in comparison with the previous part, but still keeps it simple. Knack has more moves at its disposal and teaches some special skills during the story. However, by spamming two or three attacks you know that most of the battles can be brought to an end. Almost all enemies can be defeated by pulling them to you with a crochet stroke and a flapping of your fist, and then quickly hit a hook.

Hot breath in your Knack

We must say that sometimes the game sometimes has a strange peak in difficulty. One moment, you're gently blowing through the masses of goblins, the other moment you are chopped in the pan by big mechs. It's nothing that the practiced gamer can not overcome, but the younger player has to resist some frustrations.

With all these disadvantages, it sounds like Knack 2 is just boring, but that's far from the truth. If you give it a chance, you can enjoy yourself with this cartoon-like adventure. It's all simple, but plays smoothly. The atmosphere is also delicious, it feels like you have walked in a cartoon. Certainly the cut scenes appearing on a Pixar cartoon are a pleasure to watch, but the rest of the game looks great. It's not as breathtakingly beautiful as Ratchet & Clank, but here too, the colors of the display, especially on a Pro, jump.

Looked at the Knack

The story is a series of clichés from the genre, but at least it's going through a nice pace. Knack and his human friend are walking as suddenly the ancient machines of the goblins rise from the ground. To players the task of discovering who revives the old weapons and what they intend to do with it. The story tries to keep it so fast and simple that it sometimes dumps us. At some point, the heroes must, for example, have heard of a mythical city for hundreds of years. How do we ever get there? Come on, we ask that guy with a plane who knows. And hop, we're already there.

A special mention for Knack's voice: We do not know who thought it good to give that cuddly mascot such an enormous heavy and deep voice, but entertaining is it. The characters in the game unfortunately do not go beyond the calibrated stereotypes. The clever professor, the brave adventurer and the pubs who want to prove. The conversations and jokes are sometimes so daunting that your eyes are going to roll. If Knack detects his new ice creams, he says, for example, "Ice is nice!"

That simplicity makes it accessible to young players. This is also true of the excellent cooperative option, which makes sampling a pint of a penny. You just give the controller to your crosstop, which will then get a second Knack under the buttons with the same options as you. But as you walk through, the second Knack simply tunes so you never get stuck. And if the second player drops the controller and does something else, you can just do it.

Buttoned level

With the story you are busy at ten to twelve hours, a nice time for a game like this. Then you have not found all the secrets and treasures of the game. There are a lot of treasures hidden in places you do not just seek. A second playthrough (with new game plus retaining all your skills) is therefore necessary to discover everything. Then each level has its own challenges that you can complete, such as a speedrun or a command to defeat enemies in a certain way. After playing the game you unlock some time trials and score attack mode in an arena.

Enough to do so, though it all feels like more of the same. It's a fun adventure to play through once, but the chance of being inspired to blow out all levels and find everything is pretty small. If you have a small home, this is a great purchase that lets you share your passion for games with the next generation.

Knack 2 is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

Conclusion

Knack 2 is a lot better than the original, but it is still a superficial and self-repeating platformer.

➕ Atmosphere, accessible to young players, co-op works excellent, enough content.

➖ Repetitive, superficial, strange peaks in difficulty, story is a sad cliché.

Thanks for reading.
