SINA MORA EX : GAME REVIEW

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Hi steemians have you heard of Sina Mora Ex? Alright it's your Blockchain Entertainer giving you another review.

Sina Mora in Latin means Without Delay

I like the Bullet Hell genre of games,
I feel they can be very pleasing both visually and physically, but is Sine Mora EX the same as those like Touhou and Akai Katana (Tempted to buy the Touhou game on the Switch)? Or is it a wannabe in the works? Well, that's what I'm here for, this is my review of Sine Mora EX for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam.

Official game trailer

History:

The game originally came out as Sine Mora, which was for Steam, PSN and Xbox Live, which did well enough to warrant a remaster 5 years later.... and a few months for the Switch.

The initial game release date was 21st May 2012

Sina Mora was designed by Theodore Reiker

Developed by Grasshopper manufacturers and digital Reality

Rating and Price:

PEGI 16 and ESRB M for Mature Audiences, the price is a bit complicated here...
Here are the prices for it in Nigeria:
Xbox One and PS4: N10,000
Nintendo Switch: N12, 000
And here are the American prices:
Xbox One and PS4: $20
Nintendo Switch: $30
But for Steam, you can buy it for N8,000 (don't know American price, please fill me in on that one)

Story A:

I'm not avoiding any spoilers because the game has technically been out for 5 years now, the story is a MESS, but I'll try.
Our story starts off with, how else? War! The pilot Argus Pytel is killed in the pilots seat for betrayal, and the nukes go off in a city you were attacking, his father Ronotra Koss sets out for revenge by taking down all of those who were on the plane his son was on.
You see him kill the second to last on his list, a man who was arrested for Raping Myryan Magusa, a repair woman who is only working for Ronotra because he's blackmailing her that he'll reveal her true self to the authorities and send her off, despite her being a Rape victim after it went to court.

As the two progress, Ronotra gets his hands on a robot, Garai 74/22876, which has pin-point accuracy (funny when you mess up as it), Ronotra then sends Garai and Myryan back in time so they can prevent Argus from being killed.

Meanwhile in the present, Ronotra spots his last target, which after a hard "Boss" "fight", it turns out you didn't kill him and he shoots you down, making you fall to your death, but then it's revealed that the last target was Argus himself, and he changed his name and seating because... reasons...

Story B:

image

During the same time, three pilots are infiltrating the empire and raiding the bases, hoping to take it out from the inside when they can... and that's it, they don't have as much character build up or development, so I didn't feel anything when Durak died in the explosions she caused.
You get these cards inbetween levels which have more information, but I didn't really care when it was Durak or Akyta Dryad talking, and I didn't have a reason to.

The game ends with Akyta going into the final base and facing the final boss, only for it to be too late and that her kind have all been eliminated as they were hostages in the same room... probably shouldn't be shooting loosely if you're surrounded by your own people, eh?

Story:

The only pointless point about the story was that these characters are all Anthros (Anthropomorphic animals, walking and acting like humans), but really I do not see the point in them at all, you could have the characters as humans and the story wouldn't be any different.

To make it more confusing, the Father you play as is an Ox, and his son was a bloody bear! Where's the connection in that?

Gameplay:

Now with the Bullet Hell genre, you know how it is, enemies appear, kill them and dodge the bullets, and I just summed up about 75% of the gameplay, upgrades will appear here and there which you need to collect, like bullet upgrades, sub-weapon ammo, or the Time Rift fuel.

image

By holding the ZR (Assuming you're on the Switch) you can slow down for time, for a limited period, everything but you slows to a crawl, it can be VERY useful to help get past a lot of projectiles, or re-collect your upgrades.

When you take damage in Sine Mora EX, you lose almost all weapon upgrades you got, meaning you'll have to re-collect them before they vanish, a good mix of challenge and reward for not getting hit.

image

Something else that's new is the timer on the top, it keeps counting down, and unless you kill enemies, you'll get a Game Over when it reaches 0, you even lose 5 seconds whenever you take damage.

The game is pretty hard, you will die in it, and you will die a lot, especially from the checkpoint system, when you restart after dying, you have the same weapon upgrades and time you had at the time, so if you die from a time out, then you're gonna do that until you game over, how fun!

Likes:

The graphics are really good, it's a beautiful bullet hell.

Dislikes:

The music is forgettable, yes it's quiet sometimes when you're shooting stuff down, but even then, just listening to them, it's too basic.

And while the Sine Mora EX is hard, it's too short, I completed it in over 2 hours, and I paid 25 quid for it, you can argue about the Arcade Modes, and score battle, but if you have a story to sell, then you need to make sure it's worth it and actually leaves the player wanting for more. When I completed it, I had no reason to do it again, I simply put the controller down, got Breakfast and went for a walk, then came back and did this review.

Overall:

Is that game good? Not really, it's okay to play and has a nice hard difficulty to it, but if you want to play a Bullet Hell, then this isn't good for a starter, it's just... there pretty much, and there are cheaper and better options.

Though the game was well received by critics and got the average score of 8/10, After playing this game in my opinion I'll give this game a 6.5/10.

With that said, this is your Blockchain Entertainer @michaelcj , logging off, see you in the next review!
