Chibi Robo is a character that doesn’t get a lot of credit since he only has three games, and the recent one’s were not the talk of the town (for lack of a better word).

Anyway, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash was released for the Nintendo 3DS. The name Zip Lash comes from the way Chibi Robo uses his plug to attack with. It can bounce off walls to attack enemies and reach high places; which is something that has never done in a Chibi Robo game before.

Story

The game features, Chibi Robo, who has come to earth to stop an alien invasion, and to refuel his ship so he can get home. In Europe (can’t remember who rates games there) The box has the label 7+.
Rating: This game was rated E for everyone for mild cartoon violence and there’s not much more I can add to that.

Gameplay

The ship environmentally friendly and runs on electricity generated by converting trash into watts. You’ll constantly be finding and collecting trash in this game to fuel your spaceship and keep Chibi Robo alive. Chibi Robo runs on a rechargeable battery throughout the game you’ll constantly have to recharge Chibi Robo to keep him up and running. There are tons of things to collect in this game, such as Chibi Tots; tiny plugless robots akin to Chibi Robo, star coins, and real world snack, such as airheads candy, potato chips, and more.

What they’re used for, that’s a secret. There are also a lot of costumes you can collect in this game. Anything from a Mario, to cats and dogs, to Super Pink Kawaii Chibi Robo or Lil Sweetheart as it is formally named. (I’ll post of picture of that costume, because I couldn’t find it online, if you want to see the entire list of costumes you’ll probably have to play the game yourself).

After defeating a boss, you’ll find baby aliens scattered throughout the levels in that area. For every one you save, they’ll reward you with an outfit. However, in order to obtain these outfits, you must type in outfit codes for each level via the computer on the first floor of the Chibi House (the place you go when you’re not playing levels).

The player gets one letter of each code. The way to get the rest of the code, well I don’t officially know the right way to do it, I think you’re supposed to shared your letters with other Zip Lash players on Miiverse and work together to finish each code.

Anyway since there isn’t a whole lot of Chibi Robo fans out there and the fact that this game is now 2 years old, I suggest just looking up the codes on the internet like a normal person…there’s nothing wrong with that…don’t judge me.

Amiibo:

There is a massive amount of Amiibo that work for this game. Most of the Amiibo that came out before Zip Lash work in this game. Such as most of the Smash Amiibo, the first wave of the Mario Bros series, (not the new one’s coming out). And the first three Splatoon Amiibo, (Inkling Boy, Girl, and Squid). It would be easier to give you a list of all the Amiibo that don’t work for this game.

I don’t have every Amiibo but here are one’s I’ve tried. None of the Animal Crossing Amiibo work, neither does Mewtwo, Megaman, Sonic, Zero, Pikachu, Dr. Mario, Pack-Man, Callie, Marie, or Wolf Link. What I mean by don’t work is this, every time you scan an Amiibo you’ll get either 50 or 100 + coins added to your count, this works, with all the Amiibo, however most of the Amiibo will add a figurine of Chibi Robo to the vending machine of him doing that Amiibo’s pose, but we’ll get back to that in a minute. Of course the Chibi Robo Amiibo works in this game in many different ways.

After completing a level you can scan the Chibi Robo Amiibo and level it up from wood, to metal, to bronze, silver, gold, and finally platinum. The Amiibo also gains access to the vending machine where you can purchase figurines for 50 coins a play.

The more the Amiibo is leveled up the rarer and new figures you’ll get each time. While playing through a level you can scan the Chibi Robo Amiibo to turn Chibi Robo into Super Chibi Robo which is another new feature in the Chibi Robo series. Super Chibi Robo is a gold skinned version of Chibi Robo he’s faster, has double the battery life and takes less damage when he gets injured.

At the beginning of the game he can only be used once per day, but that changes the more you level up your Amiibo. The Amiibo is also the key to unlocking world 7 in the game.

Likes

The music in this game is all original and on top of that, pretty catchy, it keeps the player, or at least myself wanting to play more.

Dislikes

There is a handful of things I didn’t like about this game

  1. Each world/area has six levels and a boss. You start at level 1 of each world, but then you have to spin a wheel to determine how many spaces forward you go 1-5 meaning after level 1-1 you’ll either end up at level 1-2 – 1-6 and after that have a chance to land back on a level you’ve already completed. You can buy wheel panels that you can place on the wheel to help you land on the desired space, but the mechanic is ridiculous and is unneeded.
Though after you defeat the boss of each world you can then choose which stage you want to play without the use of the wheel.

  2. In order to get to the final boss of the game you have to buy parts from the in game shop (using in game money). If you’re not trying to rush through the game, then this isn’t a problem. By the time I got there I had over 60000 coins to spend and the total amount the parts cost was around 10000.
Players that rush through this game better be collecting money.

  3. You are not rewarded for collecting everything in the levels, at least not that I’ve seen. What’s the point of doing a challenge if all you get is a 100% sign on your save file?
