Ten obscure sports where you can make cool games

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

UFC's beta is now live, FIFA is still incredibly popular and of course there are all kinds of racing games, whether you're into Formula 1 or supercars. Many sports have been immortalized in great and less amazing games, but not all sports have become major franchises. These ten sports may, in my opinion, be provided with a good game.

Water Polo

Spil Games once came with a game called Summer Sports with water polo, but to see its quality we understand why that was not a resounding success. Yet there is enough in the sport to make an interesting game. The resistance of water is already something that can make a game different than usual and there are clear rules that you could play well in game form.

Quidditch

The game of sport from Harry Potter may have been made up, it has rules and is even played on the ground by people. Wizards do it in the air on a broom and that is of course ideal for a game. There was once a game called Quidditch World Cup, but that has already been so long ago that there may well be a new version. It will be a challenge to make it well-controllable, since you are in a vacuum, but you can make it very exciting by adding vr-support. If you can walk through Hogwarts as a bonus, then Harry Potter fans can not get their luck!

Screens

There is enough fighting with swords in games, but in general rules are not followed. Fencing is all about the rules and it would be great to learn with the Joy-Cons of the Switch how to really fight with a saber in your hand. Time to leave behind that hacking and slashing and learn how to fight like a real gentleman (or lady).

Roller derby

One of the coolest sports is roller derby. It's cool to watch, it's super tough to do and it offers a great combination of roller skates and rugby. During each jam, a group tries to ram through the barricade of the counterparty, while the counterparty also works hard to do that for your team. It is a hard sport in which huge injuries can occur, so in a game it is cool to follow a team in a tournament, so you also have to manage the team at dropouts.

Mountainbiking

In a game like Sonic it's great to run around for a while and run like a eight-wheeler car on the track, without any platform moments that stop the lot. You can also do something like that in a game involving mountain biking, in which you have to go as fast as possible, just like in Ollie in a sidescrolling game. Meanwhile, you can of course also get tricks on your mountain bike.

Kaninhop

It has been a while since we pretended to play Nintendogs only because our little brothers and sisters needed our help. What if there is a game in which you have to care for a rabbit that way, that you can end up at bunnyhop competitions. Even domestic rabbits who normally roam the living room can develop into true high jumpers. It could be an ideal sim, in which you train your bunny to the top... if you are not busy with giving her cute hats at least.

Ice climbing

It's like a game: on a climbing wall you get the right grips to climb to the top as quickly as possible. What if you can simulate that with the Joy-Cons of Switch or with VR glasses? Making the right choices, placing your hands well, these are things that can be perfectly simulated in games nowadays. And you can train yourself immediately on fear of heights, because in the game you can of course hang on the highest heights, without having to worry that a mistake means you die. There is already a vr-climbing experience called The Climb, but we miss the wintry mountains, the chopping in ice and the really rough, winter climbing: ice climbing. After all, ice climbing is a completely different technique than rock climbing.

Horse racing

Just like car racing, riding is also a good combination of speed, a (this time living) vehicle and rules. It is not very easy to simulate the feeling of sitting on the back of such an animal; after all, you miss the smell and warmth of the horse, but the speed, the interaction with other riders and jumping over hedges are things that belong very well in a game. There are horse racing games, but we still have to encounter a realistic VR variant. He does not have to come up with a mad bull-machine for the real feeling, but if you look at the mare's ears in any case instead of a side-view. We do not dare to imagine it in view of the discussions about lootboxes, but if there is also betting as it comes with horse racing, then this game becomes even more interesting.

Squash

Actually it is strange that large games have never been made about squash, because in real life you do it in such a small space that you can easily simulate it in a game. Okay, it might not be very safe for your furniture and vases to run and make quick movements in your living room, but you could free your living room and then play in vr or on Switch with Joy-Cons a game of squash. Sweating guaranteed!

Pro-gamer

A crazy twist at the end of this article, but how cool would it be to make a sort of eSport manager game? One where you play a pro-gamer who has to set up his career, just like the sim Game Dev Tycoon, but with eSports. You can then experience what it is like to be an eSports player without the skills. And without the big fat bank account, that's a shame, of course. Such a game can give an interesting look in the kitchen to a team and you can probably find enough sponsors to make the game almost free.

Do you practice a sport that you would like to see in game form? Or does not it seem like you have a Ollie Ollie in a mountain bike variant? Let me know in the comments!
