The story of Assassin's Creed is now all-encompassing. Not crazy even after nine main parts. And Origins, the last part, adds an extra dimension to that. That is why it seems useful to explain the Assassin's Creed Origins story in more detail.

In this post i highlight two facets of the Assassin's Creed Origins story. The past - the specific story in which we can work with Bayek - and the present; the central story that runs like a red thread through the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. I mainly explain the plot, but we can not do that without using spoilers. So this article post contains spoilers from the entire Assassin's Creed series!

The basis of today's Assassin's Creed Origins story

For a long time Desmond Miles and his team formed the permanent crew of the contemporary Assassin's Creed story. The role dilution was clear. Desmond and his team were the modern assassins and had to keep the evil Abstergo - the modern Templars - from world domination.

In that battle the so-called Apples of Eden, made by the extinct first civilization, played a major role. Whoever has such an Apple in the possession, gets power over the will of people. And that is what Abstergo wants and what the assassins do not want. A somewhat reassuring thought is that there are several apples, so you first have to have them in your possession before you have absolute control.

And that is what the modern Assassin's Creed story is all about: getting the Apples of Eden out of Abstergo's hands. Of the eight known specimens, at least two are in the possession of the assasins: one with William Miles, the father of Desmond, and one with Callum Lynch from the Assassin's Creed film. The owner of all other Apples is not known. And its locations try to trace both the assassins and Abstergo by reliving genetic memories of important assassins.

After Desmond Miles

That is why the story of Desmond Miles and his team turns into the first five parts. In Assassin's Creed III there is only an abrupt end to Desmonds adventure, after he decides to give his life to save the world from destruction.

Then the contemporary story comes to a lower level. In Assassin's Creed Black Flag you try to find some information about Desmond as an anonymous (and ignorant) Abstergo employee, but in Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate there is hardly any attention paid to how the story of Desmond goes on. Although the Apples of Eden come back now and again, including a destroyed copy in Syndicate.

Layla Hassan

Five years after Desmonds death - Assassin's Creed III dates back to 2012 - the thread is picked up again. This time we crawl into the skin of Layla Hassan, a somewhat rebellious employee of Abstergo. She does not know much about the dark plans of her company and is part of the historical team within Abstergo. Her dream is to get started at the Animus Project, but she has not succeeded to date.

One day, along with her friend Deanna, she is sent to Egypt to find a "historical artifact" (Apple or Eden). By chance she encounters the mummies of Bayek and Aya from Assassin's Creed Origins in a cave and decides to make their genetic memories with their DNA in a smuggled Animus machine. Abstergo gets air from the case, is not happy, and opens the hunt for the two. How that ends, you join in Assassin's Creed Origins.

And where are those Apples of Eden now?
In the contemporary Assassin's Creed story, the Apples of Eden thus play a central role. The more Apple people have, the greater is its power, provided that the person wants to abuse it. These are the eight known Apples and their (last owners)

Apple of Eden 1: Knights Templar
Apple of Eden 2: Destroyed, last known owner was William Greer (Knights Templar)
Apple of Eden 3: Probably Templars
Apple of Eden 4: Probably Assassins
Apple of Eden 5: Unknown, last known location was the Moon
Apple of Eden 6: William Miles, Assassins
Apple of Eden 7: Destroyed, last known owner was David Brewster (Knights Templar)
Apple of Eden 8: Callum Lynch, Assassins

Probably the remainder of the current storyline is about tracing the not officially traced apples.

The Assassin's Creed Origins story of Bayek

As far as the present, on to the Assassin's Creed Origins story itself. The majority of the game and thus also the Assassin's Creed Origins story takes place in the year 48 BC. You are Bayek, a medjay who has to help his pharaoh and the Egyptian people when needed. He does that, while teaching his son Khemu the tricks of the trade.

Until one day goes wrong. Five members of the Order of the Ancients, the Templars of Ancient Egypt, abduct Bayek and Khemu and take them to a mysterious temple of the first civilization under a fortress in Siwa. They only know about nothing and so they do everything they can to work loose.

The two succeed, but the young Khemu is quickly overpowered. Bayek is somewhat more difficult to hold back and is about to kill a member of the Order. He avoids his attack, after which Bayek's knife shoots full in his son's chest. He died instantly, while Bayek was knocked down.

Wreck tour through Egypt

Eventually Bayek wakes up and he only thinks about one thing: revenge. Everyone who is responsible for the death of Khemu must pay. And there Bayek starts a wrecking trip through Egypt, looking for members of the Order of the Ancients to finish. A wreck tour that drives the Medjay to big cities like Alexandria and Memphis and puts him in contact with historical figures like Cleopatra, Apollodorus and Julius Caesar. The Egyptian may occasionally count on the help of his wife Aya, who is a personal helper of Cleopatra.

How the Assassin's Creed Origins story takes away is part of the game itself. Assassin's Creed will not be Assassin's Creed if this is not accompanied by conspiracies, plottwists and emotional moments.
