From Other Suns is the first vr-game that I want to play for hundreds of hours

We have a fantastic game year behind us and we have all played a lot of games this year. I have been enthusiastic about the possibilities of virtual reality for years. But the first vr-game that really blew me away only recently appeared. From Other Suns plays as we used to think that vr games would be. And I want to continue for hundreds of hours.

That while From Other Suns as a game is not even that original. If you played FTL, you will also know this vr-game. You are a crew member on a spaceship that must reach the earth before attacking an alien race. You do this by shaking from system to system, collecting fuel, jacking up your ship and defeating enemies. This time not from above as in FTL, but from a first-person perspective.

Freedom and arbitrariness

Random plays a big part in your space journey. On one occasion you will encounter leap after enemy enemy ships that you attack with your guns. Another time you land in a spaceship where robots have killed the staff and you can save the tent by boarding and resetting the mainframe. You rarely know what comes after a jump, and if you die, it is an immediate end to exercise. But your experiences in the game make you better.

You have the complete freedom to move around. You run to the reactor room to repair your motorcycle, sprint to the medbay to patch yourself and then go to the teleport room to invade enemy ships or stations. If your ship lands in a firefight, you will have to sprint to the bridge to fire down on traps.

Walking around is a matter of pushing the left poker forward. Anyone who is easily nauseated by vr can use a smart alternative. A comfort mode shows your character from behind as he walks, after which you teleport to his field of view as you stand still.

Together in space

Play is only possible, but is much more fun in the co-op mode with one or two friends. And there the game shows the added value of vr. You are really in space, with friends that you really see. That was fun in Star Trek Bridge Crew, but that game limited you to a few missions at a time without the possibility to leave the bridge. In From Other Suns you can go in all directions.

That also makes for great situations. Will you shoot a powerful warship? Teleport on board, sabotage the shields and let your mate open the fire. Are the soldiers on board too strong? Focus your rockets on the oxygen tank and see how they all stitch on board. With a bit of creative thinking you get further, unlock your new shoot and dive into the universe a little deeper. Until you inevitably die and start again with new experience - and upgrades via achievements.

What I want from vr

There are a lot of VR games that left a deep impression on me. Robo Recall is one of the most action-packed games I've played. Elite Dangerous made me feel not to play a game, but to sit in a spaceship. But never before has there been a game that gave me the illusion to be present myself in a world where I had total freedom to go where I want.

That is what I wanted all the time from virtual reality. There is no technology that can better move us to and immerse us in a virtual world. And From Other Suns is perhaps the first foretaste of how an Oasis from Ready Player One might ever feel.

What's good about VR games? I heard that the graphics are quite mediocre, and many people are generally uncomfortable playing VR due to the feeling of nausea and dizziness.

It's a matter of habit. I've never encountered such problems. Maybe during the first use of the oculus, but that was so long ago that I don’t even remember any of the nuances. But overall I agree with you. I don’t play any big games with a plot in the oculus, because at least on a regular screen it will be easier, more interesting, and of better quality. But I think vr porn games quest is an excellent option. If you don’t mind such leisure and calm about porn games, why not? Sometimes it helps to pass the time and relax.
