Fire Emblem Warriors 3DS Review - For Anyone Without Switch
On the Switch you can enjoy countless battles with Fire Emblem characters in Fire Emblem Warriors. This game is also for sale for the 3DS. In my Fire Emblem Warriors 3DS review you will find out if the 3DS version of the game is as great as its big brother on the Switch.
A few years ago Hyrule Warriors came out. This mix between The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors was a success, especially the version for the New 3DS was a hit. Nintendo later announced Fire Emblem Warriors for the Switch, a game that uses the same formula but invades The Legend of Zelda for Fire Emblem. This was a great success, but is the version for the 3DS that too?
Much of the same, in a good way
If you have already played the Switch version of the game, you will not encounter much news. This version of Fire Emblem Warriors follows the same story as the Switch version. Fortunately, it is not cut in the story or in the number of available characters. Also, the maps remained largely the same. However, there are some differences between both versions of the game.
For fans of Fire Emblem, it's great to see all the characters together. Naturally, it's natural characters you've become attached to as a player. But the game is also accessible to anyone who does not know Fire Emblem. It may be full of references to other games, but the story is good for everyone and the main players are new.
There's only one thing missing
The gameplay remains largely the same. The action in the fighting runs smoothly and totally unhappy. In addition to the typical hack-and-slash game of Dynasty Warriors, the game also has a clever strategy of Fire Emblem. You have to keep an eye on all your characters, because the game will not show your own initiative. If you do not notice, your characters just do nothing.
The biggest difference in gameplay is that the co-op mode is missing in the 3DS version. This is a pity because the co-op version in Fire Emblem Warriors for the Switch was fun and the 3DS definitely has opportunities for co-op. So, unfortunately, playing with your friends will not go.
Lesser graphics, but good performance
The game is visually less impressive. The characters are less detailed, sometimes miss shadows and the environments you fight are less beautiful than on the Switch. This probably means that the game performs well and plays smoothly.
Sometimes the game seems even more fluid than on the Switch. There are rumors that Fire Emblem Warriors plays on the 3DS at 60fps. The Switch version is known to play at 30fps. That certainly relieves the pain that causes the less good graphics, if you can look through it naturally.
There's one thing you need to know. Like Hyrule Warriors Legends, Fire Emblem Warriors can not be played on an old 3DS or 2DS. So you need a New Nintendo 3DS or 2DS for the game. For anyone who wants to upgrade this can be just the push they need. For others, that may be a reason to let the game down.
Conclusion
For anyone with a new 3DS, and that would be a pity because Fire Emblem Warriors is a fun game, even if you're not a fan of Fire Emblem. The game misses the tough strategic decisions you need to make as a player of a regular Fire Emblem game and this makes Fire Emblem Warriors easier to tackle. All in all, the 3DS version of the game is a success and certainly also recommended to anyone who owns the new version of the handheld.
Pros
➕ Gameplay same as the Switch version
➕ The action runs smoothly
➕ Many characters available
Cons
➖ Not playing on an old 3DS
➖ Visually less attractive than the Switch version
➖ No co-op mode
Thanks for your precious time.
