Zombicide Dark Side - M0 Pits & Blitz
Hi there,
I'm back with another Zombicide experience. Seeing the success from the previous session, I thought I'd share with you my first play on the Dark Side edition. It was the second game I picked up through the kickstarter last year.
The action takes place in the maze of the underground mining facilities. The main difference compared to the previous version are the exterior zones being replaced with dark zones. In those our heroes are not able to trace line of sight and consequently not able to use ranged weapons on xenos aliens.
Let's meet our team. I'm using the base characters this time as they are pretty stylish and well balanced for the mission. No ugly kids this time... They are an elite team with access to powerful weapons.
The Green Squad!
They each start with a heavy pistol giving + 1 die in melee.
I guess they are hitting aliens with it or something...
Anyway, Miranda is our team leader. She replaced the previous one after a deadly attack. For that reason, she is brand new to this, still struggling to fit the role.
Radka would be the tech specialist, able to find weapons faster. She's probably using some kind of radar. Also once she levels up she'll be able to control all machines in the game. Pretty cool, right?
Umkos is the only alien from the squad. He's got enhanced senses with the ability to see in the dark. A precious gift in this hell hole. We're glad he's in the team. He'll probably kill more xenos than the rest.
The hot head underneath is Reese. She's got a point blank ability enabling her to use guns as melee weapons. I imagine some kind of close up katas like in Equilibrium.
In this specific play run, she picked up the sentry gun controller. That would make her very powerful to shoot xenos in the dark from far distance.
The two last ones are Drake and Miles. One is specialized in defense with an auto repair armor, the other one in offense with a zero gravity jump. Lots of action plays to come. Drake has already got the chain-saw ready!
And with that wonderful team, that's where we're at! Mission 0 from Dark Side. Our characters are discovering the pits. These holes that form out of nowhere and let more xenos out...
Spawn zones are at the very top and bottom right corner. It brings our way this continuous flow of monsters.
With a close-up we can see the immediate threats are the Blitzer xeno in the middle of our team. He deals a total of 4 damages with 2 actions. We'll have to take him out on this turn.
On our right, the 2 pairs of workers are also a threat in case of extra activations. They are standing in the pit zone which gives them extra defense.
For the Blitzer in our zone I'm counting on Umkos with his chain-sword to do the hit. It's powerful enough to take out the big guy.
For the closest workers, we'll have to go melee! I'll probably send Drake with the chain-saw which has more hits (5 dice roll) and Reese as backup with the light machine gun. (She can use is as melee, remember?)
We'll get out of this mess...
We're only half way through.
