One They Fear: Funny Skyrim Short Animation Film
"Will you also be needing the bow that shoots rainbows? Or perhaps a quiver that dispenses beer?"
-Fihada (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
Another cool fan made piece I found on YouTube. Yes, this is a fan made short movie not trailer for another Skyrim re-release. I don't know about you guys but fan made video game stuff are rarely fail to amuse me. I find it awesome to see how some fans show their love for video game, by creating something awesome out of it.
This one is a 5 minute Pixar-styled animation made by VMComix, an animation student at Sheridan College in Ontari, with the help of a couple other artists and designers. Started with making mainly Minecraft animations, but other games will come in the future. This Skyrim animation is the first animation other than Minecraft, titled One They Fear.
With that cartoony style graphic and story, this Skyrim animation is funny and so relatable. Going through all that trouble for loot only to find the chest only contains one piece of gold and other stuff that you probably have tons already in your inventory, including potion that you probably never use.
It really shows the joy of looking at giant chest in video game... And the disappointment when there's not much of a shiny stuff in it. Also, you know what's the most Skyrim-relatable in this animation? That ragdoll physics in the falling from the stairs scene. But I wish there's some FUS RO DAH scene though..
For a funny animation, I find the ending quite touching. It's like... giving a message to the viewer to appreciate what you have at the moment no matter how small it might be.
The programs used by VMComic are Blender, an open-source 3D creation software, Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Audacity. The making progress have quite a bunch of works to do to make this short animation.
As someone who is having so much difficulty learning Blender myself, it makes me wonder if I can make something like that.
Start by sketching up the scenes and everything else in 2D..
Making the rough models in 3D..
Polishing the models..
To the lighting work and animation until it finish..
That's a lot of works to do for a 5 minutes long movie, but the result is worth it in my opinion, this animation is cool, so cool that people are shouting for this to be a full length Skyrim movie. For me.. I think it's a good idea.
But I doubt it will happen soon, because VMComic stated in his YouTube channel he don't do intros for channels/servers/series or anything like that. But who knows if that will change, and when it does... Bethesda better not taking it down.
