Ragnarok Online PH

What is Ragnarok often reffered to as "RO" "Ragna" it is a MMORPG world filled with magic, riches and a world of endless posivilities, it was released year 2005 in the philippines but it was first released in South Korea year 2002 made to run on Microsoft Windows Operating system and made by Gravity Co. Ltd. based on the manhwa ragnarok by Lee Myung-Jin, mostly based on Norse mythology but the style has been influenced by Christianity and various asian cultures as well.

This is my first time seeing this video while making this blog even being a member of the earliest players of Ragnarok Online.

at the height of its popularity Ragnarok onlinePH have 57,000 concurrent users Chaos being the first server, was the most populated 2nd is Loki the 3rd one is undecided between Iris and Fenrir.

first you will start as a Novice a jobless character, after a certain amount of job level ups you will be entitled to choose 1 of the 6 1st job classes and proceed to 2nd Job classes or alternate 2nd job classes as follows:

Acolyte and Priest or Monk

Acolytes lived their lives as servants of the Catholic church, they train to become selfless and devoted individuals, aiming to help all that they meet.
Once the Acolyte has reached a sufficient amount of training, they can choose to continue and grow in their supportive endeavors and become Priests or train physically and mentally, dealing great damage as Monks.

Archer and Hunter or Bard & Gypsy

Archers are experts at long-range combat with Bows and Arrows. Their range gives them several advantages in the game.
Once it reached a certain level archer's can take the job as a hunter specialized in hunting monsters or a Bard or Gypsy choosing the path of music and harmony.

Swordsman and Knight or Crusader

Swordsman are honest and as stubborn as the strong waves of the ocean. With strong physical attacks, defense, and a sense of command, a Swordman can become a headstrong leader to others. Swordmen continuously train to gain more skill and strength. Once the required job level is achieved swordsman can change to its primary 2nd job class Knight a hack and slash type of character with the mastery of sword and spear type weapons or Crusaders a fine blend of physical strength and faith-driven magical prowess capable of melee combat, armed with a spear or sword and shield that can also play as a supporting character that wields powerful holy magic.

Merchant and Blacksmith or Alchemist

Always on the lookout for profit, Merchants are the economic experts of Ragnarok Online. Setting out to make a fortune, playing as a Merchant will allow the player to get the most out of every last zeny. After a life of buying and selling items, Merchant second jobs provide the possibility of making their own in battle taking the path of Blacksmiths or Alchemist.

Mage and Wizard or Sage

Mages rely on their skills as their main source of damage, all of a Mage's spells are elemental, thus meaning the accurate use of the correct spell against the correct monsters is highly important. Mages Primary 2nd Job is a Wizard this job rely on dangerous magic strikes as well as devastating Area of Effect spells to wreak havoc, they can also become a sage a PvP-oriented class with the role of caster/anti-Mage, Sages shine in their defensive abilities.

Thief and Assassin or Rogue

Thief is a force to be reckon with in this game they have massive dodge and attack speed coupling their high flee rate with the ability to become invisible, Thief's Primary 2nd job is a Assassin able to equip a weapon in each hand and the exclusive users of Katar weapons. Assassins have a variety of damage dealing with critical hits and poisoning skills, on the other hand Rogue's are very versatile not too effective on hunting monsters but excelling in PvP environment with the ability to render most classes useless in PvP with its stripping skills.

as one of the earliest member of this Online Game Community I met most of my real-life friends up to this day in this game, we helped each other get stronger and explored this magical world together.

moving forward the Ragnarok online implemented the War of Emperium where the most epic bond between players and fights against other guilds on the game happened fighting for the ownership of main towns castles.

Updates and Downfall

After many updates the Balance of the Game play started to tilt, the number of loyal players also started to fall and the community of the game is slowly deteriorating.

as more and more variety of online games with better graphics and gameplay started to pop-up, most of the loyal players of ragnarok who are tired of the already unbalanced game play and system switched games.

and on February 13, 2015 LevelupGames Announced through its official website that it would cease its service by the end of march 2015, The statement, addressed to the community, stated:

We find it difficult to share the heartbreaking news that Ragnarok Online will be concluding its local PH service on March 31, 2015. Please know that if we had any other choice, we would have wanted to keep going. Unfortunately, it seems our journey has now come to its end.

Thus, we wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you’ve given us through the years. It’s been our great pleasure and honor in serving every one of you.

Speculations

Because of the sudden announcement, many long-standing players of pRO theorized that the Level Up’s decision to shut down the 12-year old MMORPG was due to the local publishers’ inability to deliver the necessary royalty dues to Ragnarok’s Korean developer, Gravity Games. Gravity and LevelupGames refute this speculations.

Other members of the pRO community speculated that Level Up’s Happy Hour event caused the in-game economy to break beyond repair. The Happy Hour event allowed each player to convert their in-game subscription time into in-game currency. Players who then used their in-game currency to buy Premium bundles were rewarded with rare items that were rare to obtain otherwise.

The sudden influx of rare and powerful items in the game caused many server economies to crash. From this, players theorized that Level Up simply gave up trying to fix the pRO economy and simply abandoned the game.

“Abandonment is certainly outside of the issue,” San Diego said. “We never initiated the closure of the game.”

“There are a lot of factors that could lead to the decline in the performance of game,” San Diego added. “That is ultimately the root cause of our decision. The changing landscape of gaming and the changing preference of gamers are powerful factors that come into play that is very hard to anticipate. As much as we would like to keep the game alive, if players are shifting to other forms of games, then we can only do so much as a publisher.”

Regardless, San Diego said that the closure of pRO will not stop Level Up and its partner companies from delivering the best video game experiences for the Philippine market.

“All we can do now is to keep supporting these games and make them as easy to obtain for gamers in the country,” San Diego said.

Personal comment of the end

For me the overall experience is still the best, had a lot of good memories in this game but still Thanks to Gravity Co. Ltd, Levelupgames and PlayPark for bringing us this epic game, even the ending is depressing the memories of this game are deeply rooted in my heart. Rok On!!
